The college football world witnessed a seismic upset on September 27 when No. 17 Alabama stunned No. 5 Georgia 24-21 in Athens, snapping the Bulldogs’ jaw-dropping 33-game home winning streak at Sanford Stadium. Quarterback Ty Simpson carved up the Georgia defense for 276 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score, while Alabama’s defense made the play of the night with a critical fourth-down stop inside their own 10-yard line late in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory. For Georgia fans across the nation, including one very prominent WWE superstar, it was a gut-wrenching night that nobody saw coming.

Cody Rhodes, the current undisputed WWE Champion and a devout fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, didn’t and, well, couldn’t hide his disappointment when he discussed the loss against Alabama. He is a Georgia native who also served as the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s College Gameday in Athens back in November 2024. On the Pat McAfee Show, he said, “It’s not like it was four or five years ago before the big extended playoff, where that one loss is it like as far as fan bases, we’re not packing it up in Athens and saying it’s over,” before adding the disappointing part, “But I certainly didn’t think that was going to be the case. I didn’t think Alabama had any of the juice. I didn’t think that.”

His frustration was so palpable, it could be felt through the screen. He said, “So that game was just a sad ending.” his voice felt betrayed as the sting of watching his beloved Bulldogs fall apart on their home turf became reality. But despite the heartbreak, though, he remained optimistic: “But I still stand by my dogs. And I think it was a great game. That game is always a great game, but not what I was expecting, but not as bad as it used to be in the SEC.” Rhodes has had a deep connection to the Bulldogs ever since he attended the Georgia football camp as a kid and took a picture with Uga, the team’s mascot.

If we look ahead to Georgia’s next challenge, it’s the Auburn Tigers on October 11. Auburn has had a rough couple of weeks, but they cannot be underestimated. They were inches away from beating Oklahoma and Texas A&M, both of which they lost by a one-score margin. And Cody couldn’t help but voice his optimism, saying, “But they’re gonna fix it this weekend. Joe Tess is on the call. Bring good vibes. Yes, the dogs are gonna be fine.”

Now, Georgia sits at 3-1 overall with 1-1 in the SEC play. The Bulldogs still have a very realistic chance to see themselves in the College Football Playoffs. And most projections also place them at No. 5, despite the Alabama setback. The expanded playoffs mean one loss will not eliminate championship dreams, but now they’ve to be extremely cautious. They’ve got Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida, Texas, and Georgia Tech, all of which are real threats, barring Florida, of course.

Pat McAfee’s costly kicking contest gets a reality check

Pat McAfee’s wildly popular College Gameday kicking contest has become a masterclass in how ‘not’ to manage your money. And Cody Rhodes just couldn’t hold himself back from giving McAfee the reality check he needed. The former NFL punter has already bled a staggering $850,000 in just five weeks of the 2025 season. But the breaking point came in Week 5 at Penn State when raffle winner William made a decision to tag in a stranger, whom he had just met, by the name of Carson Albright. Carson was the equipment manager of a women’s soccer team, and his job was to kick soccer balls “literally every single day.” He obviously made the 33-yarder.

Cody Rhodes was watching this from home with his wife, Brandi, and their kids. He said to McAfee, “You’re losing way too much money in College Game[Day]. By the way, I had Brandy watching it this week with the two kids who went tandem on you. I’m dying, laughing at the money just draining from you.” Rhodes couldn’t believe that McAfee couldn’t see it coming when Williams selected Carson as his kicker. “You had to know that that kid was going through the uprights. That was the most white soccer player, ‘I’m gonna kick it straight,’ I have ever seen, and they’re like, ‘I just met this guy,'” he said. And well, as a result of this “pick-someone-else” gimmick being used so often, McAfee has decided to put some guardrails to save his pocket. Now, contestants will have only 30 seconds to pick someone from the crowd for the kick, and they cannot bring a kicker with them.
