The tides in Colorado are shifting and Warren Sapp is in the center of it. The former NFL DT is known for his relentless dedication and confidence. His performance in Boulder under Deion Sanders proved that he can do a lot more than just a graduate assistant. The big news? He’s getting a new role! And if you know Sapp, you know he’s bringing the heat to the Big 12.

In an episode of Wednesdays With Warren by Thee Pregame Network, Warren Sapp made his voice heard. He is officially the new PRC (pass rush coordinator) for the Colorado Buffaloes football! And now with his new role, big changes could be coming to Boulder. But he’s keeping things discreet for now. When asked about what sort of things he’s going to implement, he said, “You’ll see it. I ain’t telling nobody nothing. I’m scared to death, I’mma scammed to death because we’re gonna do it every day.” This element of intrigue always opens the gates for close speculation.

But the Big 12 better be ready to face the genius of Warren Sapp. “We’re gonna do it everyday,” the Hall of Famer repeated. “It will not be a day that we don’t do this cause it’s a tedious repetition of the simplest movements that will make you what you want to be in this game.” And Sapp isn’t just running his mouth. 

In 2024, he proved himself as an able PRC who led the Buffs to finish as one of the nation’s top pass-rush units that saw a boost in sack production from 27 to 39 from 2023-24. “So we just gonna grind,” he continued. “We just gonna get on the bike. We just gonna ride. We’re gonna try new pedals. We’re going to try new handlebars. We’re going to do everything we can do to this bike but we going to get on this bike. I guarantee you.” Bold declaration, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. And Warren Sapp has explosive playmakers to his advantage. 

Some of the Buffs’ best players are returning in 2025 including Arden Walker, Taje McCoy, and Keaten Wade who recorded at least four sacks each this past season. And his metaphorical take never runs out — “We’re just getting started. We have the foundation laid. It’s a solid foundation so now we’re going to put the pillars up, put a roof on this thing and make it a pavilion.” But can this foundation extinguish their dismal projection for the 2025 season? 

Can Colorado Buffaloes change the media narrative in 2025?

Colorado enters the 2025 season with a fresh goal to get better than last season. 9-4 (7-2 in Big 12) isn’t unflattering although they missed a shot at the conference title game. The Buffs will open against Georgia Tech on August 30 before rounding off their regular season with a trip to Kansas State on November 29. They’ll face Delaware, Wyoming, BYU, Iowa State, Arizona, and Arizona State at Folsom Field while hitting the road against Houston, TCU, Utah, and West Virginia. But they aren’t without brute projections. 

Cody Nagel released an early Big 12 rankings on Wednesday and it didn’t favor Deion Sanders’ squad. Right now, Colorado is projected as one of the worst-performing teams in the Big 12 in 2025 with a 5-7 record, finishing 13th in the conference. Their past inconsistencies and the dilemma at QB could be contributing here. The question is: Can they flip this narrative and soar above the projections? Can Warren Sapp change that perception for Colorado with his aggressive pass-rush philosophy? If history is any indication, expect fireworks!
