Ohio State’s fate turned pale blue with their WR injury scare. After starting all 25 games of his career, Jeremiah Smith’s status was “questionable” before entering the Bruins game. This was a big scare for their already thin WR room with Carnell Tate sitting out. But fans did breathe a sigh of relief when Smith took up the reins, but that wasn’t for long, as after making an incredible one-handed catch, he was limping on the sidelines at halftime. Now, let’s dig deeper into what exactly happened to Jeremiah Smith.

What happened to Jeremiah Smith

Despite a concerning status Jeremiah Smith entered the game with no moving issues, recording 4 catches for 40 yards in the first half. But things got weird when he was seen limping on the sidelines without his helmet on, heading into halftime. 10TV Sports’ Adam Kings hits X with the update: “Jeremiah Smith no longer has his helmet and appears to be walking very cautiously.” What’s more concerning is Smith didn’t come back into the game and was seen heading towards the locker room with visible sign of difficulty in walking.

Losing him at this point just makes things worse for Ohio State. This guy has been leading the Bucks’ receiver room since last year, totaling 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns and earning multiple honors with first-team All-America and Big Ten Receiver of the Year. Even this season the dominance continued through nine games, recording 65 receptions for 862 yards and 10 touchdowns.

This takes another big hit to the Bucks’ WR room, as Tate already missed the second straight game of the season after Purdue. Now, he was sidelined after last week’s ailment issue, which didn’t go away even after a week of rest. So, to not make his condition worse, Ryan Day decided to keep him out against UCLA. “Carnell, we felt like he was going to be OK to play, but when he went through warm-ups, he just felt something there, so we just wanted to be really careful,” Day said. “Could he have played? Yeah, probably. But we’re just going to rest him to make sure.”

Keeping Smith and Tate healthy before Ohio State’s high-stakes matchup against Michigan should be their top priority because if he suffers a serious injury, the playoff path might be a bit bumpy for the Bucks.

Now, let’s talk about Ryan Day’s update on Smith’s status.

Is Jeremiah Smith healthy?

After not entering the game in the second half, everyone thought Jeremiah Smith might be out for the rest of the season, but it looks like that’s not going to be the case. As Ryan Day shares a much-needed injury update on him after the game, saying, “Jeremiah was just having a little bit of a nagging issue there that we just wanted to make sure that we were being really smart with him, as we know what’s coming down the road here.”

Well, now there’s a high chance that the Buckeyes might put him out against Rutgers next week, which will give Smith time to recover. Till then their five-star freshman Quincy Porter might hold up the reins for Ryan Day’s team as he took over for Smith in the later half. It’s still unclear when exactly the injury happened to Smith, as he played in the entire game against Purdue last week, catching 10 passes for 137 yards with a touchdown.
