When you wear your name on the back of your jersey and walk around town, your last name represents a lot of people, not just yourself,” said Dylan Raiola‘s father, Dominic Raiola. Well, it seems like the former NFL star opened the door for his family’s football legacy with those words. Not only Dylan’s father, but even his uncle Donovan Raiola currently serves Cornhuskers as an offensive line coach. Family is everything for us,” said Donovan, explaining family’s contribution to Dylan’s football journey.

And this football fam is a unique blend of heritage and diversity. Dylan’s father was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and he has Italian ancestry. The Hawaiian native was even drafted as a center for the Detroit Lions over two decades ago. On the other hand, his mother, Yvonne Raiola, was born in Kailua, Hawaii. So, it can be guessed Dylan’s ethnicity is a mixture of Italian and Polynesian.

Born on May 9, 2005, in Gilbert, Arizona, Dylan was coached by his family members in childhood. Having an athletic family background, the Cornhuskers’ QB was raised in sports rather than Disney films. Dylan was a big baseball fan growing up and played on travel teams before switching to football in high school. But Burleson High School played a significant role in Dylan’s life in making him realize his passion for football.

“That kind of stuff is handed out by God most of the time,” said Bobby Stroupe, Dylan Raiola’s health and performance trainer, referring to Raiola’s exceptional shoulder blade range of motion. Stroupe even called it a “cannon.”

His head coach, Matt Rhule, was equally impressed, not just by Raiola’s skills but also by his strong family roots in sports. As a freshman joining the Cornhuskers, Raiola showed he truly “knew what the program was really like on the inside.” It’s no surprise, given his family’s rich sports heritage.

Dylan Raiola’s family tree

Dylan has an older brother, Dayton, and a younger sister, Taylor, both of whom are deeply rooted in sports. Dayton was a starting quarterback for Buford High School in Georgia as a junior, while Taylor was a dedicated volleyball player. But Dylan’s sports legacy doesn’t end there—his grandfather, Tony Raiola, played football at the University of Miami, and his mom was actively involved in water polo during her college days. She also played a key role in shaping her children’s athletic and academic development. No wonder Dylan is now one of the best QBs in college football!

In his debut season, the Nebraska QB has already led his team to a 3-0 start. He kicked off with a stellar performance against UTEP, throwing for 238 yards and two memorable touchdowns in a commanding 40-7 win. Then, he took on the formidable Colorado Buffaloes, securing another victory. His third win came against Northern Iowa. And this is just the beginning! Dylan has a long road ahead and plenty of wins to achieve in his journey.
