If you are a CFB fan, you will definitely agree that Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach, is unconventional when motivating his team. Let me tell you that Curtis Snyder, Colorado’s assistant athletic director, announced ahead of the 2023 season that there are no captains in Boulder; instead, there are leaders. To see the track record and popularity, you may think Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter might be playing like leaders in the Colorado Buffaloes team.

However, Deion Sanders introduced a unique system to motivate all of his players. If you follow the Buffs very closely, you will see “L” and “D” patches on their jerseys. This reflects Coach Prime’s new way of rewarding players for their performance as leaders. Let me tell you what these patches mean.

Why Shedeur Sanders wears an ‘L’ on Colorado jersey

In the 2023 season, Deion Sanders appeared on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff show in Boulder, revealing the actual meaning of the patches on CU Buffs jerseys. He mentioned that “L” stands for “Leaders,” which is why Shedeur wears an “L” on his Colorado jersey. He also stated that these patches are not interchangeable. However, he was unclear about the difference between such patches.

The most intriguing fact is that Deion also wore a “JC” patch jersey on his game day. On the same show, he said the patch is basically to honor his former Florida State equipment manager. Not only he or his players but other teams also use such patches. However, when Deion comes, it will be something unique or different that we couldn’t have guessed. Let’s move to the meaning of “D.”

Why Travis Hunter wears a ‘D’ on Colorado jersey

The “D” patches on the Colorado jersey stand for “Dwag.” On the Undisputed in 2023 show, Coach Prime explained the meaning of such patches to FS1: “He does not tire of loving the game and wanting to be in the game and studying the game and all the intricate details of the game. So, you get an idea why Travis wears a “D” on his Colorado jersey.

However, Coach Prime isn’t bothered by such patches to some extent. Hence, depending on “L” or “D” patches, the CU Buffs’ players are never judged. Presently, the team is busy preparing for their upcoming battle to become a playoff contender in the 2024 season. Let’s wait and watch Deion’s coaching bring the Colorado Buffs as much success as possible this year.
