“Phil raised him into the man he is,” Judy once said. “He played catch in the front yard, and Rhett could already catch a football with both hands at six years old.” Moreover, Lashlee’s bond with his stepdad has been stronger, even more so than with his real father. While chatting about how Phil’s consistent guidance helped Rhett grow up and gain some wisdom, Judy mentioned, “Rhett has seen a lot and has always been wise beyond his years.”

On the rarest of rare occasions, Rhett Lashlee talks about his biological dad, K.R., who was a brilliant tax attorney but spent most of his life battling with alcohol addiction. His dad was out of his life from ages 13 to 23. And when he finally entered Rhett’s life again, he passed away at 50.

“Everybody has a sickness, and that was his,” Rhett said after his father’s shocking demise. However, his father’s sickness left an irreparable mark on young Rhett’s life before his stepfather Phil entered their life when Rhett was 7 years old. Phil and Judy’s daughter Brooke also shares a unique bond with his brother and while talking about the dynamics of her brother and father, she said, “It’s just apparent that the Lord knew they needed to be together. They needed each other.” Said Rhett’s sister.
