The Big 12 schedule in CFB Week 4 features 8 games across two days. One of them involves the famous media hungry Colorado Buffaloes (1-2) as they host Wyoming (2-1) on September 20, 10:15 p.m. EST. The Buffs and Cowboys will face off for the first time since 2009 at Folsom Field. Live coverage will be on ESPN. The late window on ESPN has become a draw for CU since Deion Sanders took over.

Calling the action will be Dave Flemming, a familiar voice to college football fans. Flemming’s career has bounced across the sports spectrum. He has handled everything from college basketball to MLB to golf. But football in the Rocky Mountains carries a different flavor. A Stanford and Syracuse product, Flemming’s path into broadcasting has always been about balancing polish with a storyteller’s touch. Viewers tuning in for this one get the rare treat of a seasoned play-by-play announcer who can glide from third-down dramatics to dropping nuggets of history between the teams, without missing a beat.

Beside him is Brock Osweiler, the former NFL QB who made his bones in Denver and knows the quirks of the region’s football scene. Drafted by the Broncos in 2012 after a run at Arizona State, Osweiler spent seven seasons in the league, bouncing from starter to backup. Since moving to ESPN’s booth in 2022, he’s carved out a style that’s part analytical insight and part everyman delivery. He’s not afraid to pull the curtain back on the chess match between quarterbacks and defensive coordinators, but he keeps it light.

Colorado enters Week 4 as a 13.5-point favorite, according to BetMGM. The Buffaloes haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard, averaging 23.7 points per contest, good for 95th nationally. Their offense sits at 334.3 total yards a game, leaning more through the air (210.3 passing) than on the ground (124 rushing). It’s not the fireworks show Sanders would prefer, but it’s enough to stay competitive.

Wyoming, meanwhile, has quietly pieced together a 2-1 start despite their own wobbly offense. The Cowboys are putting up 344.7 yards per outing, leaning heavier on the run at 158.7 per game while mustering just 186 yards passing. The problem? They’re only scoring 15.7 points a night, which puts them in the bottom tier of the FBS at 120th. That kind of rank won’t win many shootouts, especially on the road under the lights.

Prediction and pick

Both squads are coming off losses. Colorado fell 36-20 to Houston, while Wyoming got handled 31-6 by Utah. But the Buffaloes have the crowd, the late-night slot, and the spotlight of Sanders’ program on their side.

While CU should be able to win this game, the lack of clarity at the QB position through three games is a major concern. That’s the kind of cloud that can linger over an entire offense. The Buffaloes did manage to beat Delaware, but it was shaky enough that Staub ended up getting a shot under center.

Wyoming, on the flip side, opened with wins over Akron and Northern Iowa but has only managed to score more than 10 points in one of them. Now they face a Big 12 defense, that’s flirting with disaster. Colorado is giving up 430 yards per game, while Wyoming’s pass defense has been stingy at just 160 yards allowed. Despite that, Colorado currently holds the edge, but not by a large margin.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the Buffaloes' home advantage and Sanders' spotlight be enough to overcome their offensive struggles?
