When South Carolina took the field against Texas A&M on November 11th, the Gamecocks’ depth chart featured a name that might’ve raised eyebrows for anyone following college football closely. Jayden Sellers, listed as available after missing most of the season with an undisclosed injury, was ready to suit up for one of the SEC’s toughest matchups.

The freshman wide receiver had flashed potential in limited action earlier in the year. He had six catches for 57 yards against Oklahoma and three for 38 against Alabama. But for most casual observers, he remained something of a mystery. Who exactly is Jayden Sellers, the 5’11” receiver wearing No. 17 for the Gamecocks?

Who is Jayden Sellers?

Jayden Sellers is LaNorris Sellers’ younger brother. He arrived in South Carolina in January 2025, having graduated early from South Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. This is the same program that’s produced some of the state’s most exciting talent in recent years. As a senior in 2024, Sellers compiled a season that caught the attention of college coaches. He had 59 receptions for 1,016 yards and 14 touchdowns, plus another 485 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground.

But Sellers’ path to Columbia wasn’t without adversity. As a junior in 2023, he was putting up explosive numbers before disaster struck in the sixth game of the season. Sellers tore his ACL, ending what had started as a breakout campaign and forcing him to spend the rest of his junior year rehabbing instead of catching passes. The injury could’ve derailed his recruitment entirely. But Sellers committed to South Carolina back in October 2023, even before his senior season proved he could return to form. That senior year answered any lingering questions about his health, as Sellers not only returned but thrived.

He enrolled at South Carolina as a three-star recruit ranked 998th nationally and 153rd among wide receivers in the 2025 class.

The bond between Jayden Sellers and LaNorris Sellers

Jayden and LaNorris Sellers reunited as a quarterback-receiver duo that’s been terrorizing defenses together since high school. The Sellers brothers first made waves together in 2022 when LaNorris, then a senior quarterback, and Jayden, a sophomore receiver, led South Florence to its first state championship in school history.

That title game was for the ages. Jayden caught four passes from his brother and went for 122 yards with two scores. LaNorris also had a baller game. He went for 260 yards and five touchdowns and also added 192 rushing yards. After LaNorris went to South Carolina, Jayden led South Florence to yet another state title in 2024.

And now, the duo is back in South Carolina. “Super excited to play with him because the last time we played together was my senior year,” LaNorris said at SEC Media Days in July. Jayden credits his older brother with easing the transition to college football: “He helped me a lot with the playbook and stuff like that because that’s really a major change from high school to college. He basically taught me the roots to being a great college athlete that he is, and I am just taking it all in.”

Head coach Shane Beamer has noticed their connection growing, particularly during a crucial fourth-down conversion against Alabama on October 25th when LaNorris found Jayden downfield to keep a drive alive. “I think it’s more of an excitement and happiness from LaNorris towards his brother to see him out there making plays,” Beamer said. “But then also knowing his brother is a good player who can make plays for sure. They got a good connection.”

The Sellers-to-Sellers connection is just getting started in Columbia. And if their high school track record is any indication, SEC defenses better start preparing for double coverage.
