Ohio State’s Assistant Athletic Director for Football Sports Performance, Mickey Marroti, might seem like a pretty serious guy on the surface. However, beyond his tough demeanor, he is a guy who wants to be a father figure for athletes. Hailing from Ambridge, Marotti credits his rough upbringing for making him who he is today. After playing football at the varsity level, he headed to West Virginia to attend and play as a fullback for West Liberty University. Where he went on to be a four-year letter winner serving as team captain in 1986 and winning first-team NAIA All-Academic honors the following year. After graduating with a degree in exercise physiology, he also obtained a Master’s degree from Ohio State and another from West Virginia University.

Soon, Marroti turned toward coaching and started his journey as a graduate assistant at Ohio State. He then once again headed to West Virginia; following this, he moved to Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Florida before finally coming back full circle to Ohio in 2012 when Urban Meyer took over the team. Let’s get to know more about Mickey Marotti as we take a deeper dive into his life.

Who is Mickey Marotti’s wife?

Mickey Marotti’s love language is “quality time” and “words of affirmation“, the Ohio State coach mentioned on the Keri Croft Show. That’s the two things he likes to do with his lovely wife, Susan Marotti, formerly Susan Laffey, whenever he’s off the football field.

We don’t quite know how the Ohio State athletic director met his wife, but it’s safe to say the couple are happily married and enjoying a great time together. The position of an assistant AD of a program, especially one like the Buckeyes, where you’re constantly judged for even the minutest of your decisions, comes with its ups and downs. In his interviews, Mickey has often credited his family as the pillars behind his success.

Who are Mickey Marotti’s parents?

Mickey Marotti was born in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and had a pretty difficult life while growing up. It was partially due to his father splitting up with his mother while he was young. His mother had to take care of him and his siblings alone and sometimes Mickey’s grandmother stepped in to help his mother.

His mother, Janet, worked hard to put food on the table, and Marotti didn’t have much growing up. He was raised by Janet and Mickey’s stepfather, Joe Bichey. But he didn’t lel the hardships stop him from playing football and attending college. His undying will and hard work helped him achieve his dreams. However, apart from this not much information is available about his parents in any public domain.

Does Mickey Marotti have kids?

Marotti is married to his long-time wife, Susan, and together, the couple share two kids: a son, Mitchell, and a daughter, Maddie. Both Mitchell and Maddie share the same alma mater as their father, with them being Ohio State graduates. When her father made the move to Florida along with his family, Maddie started exploring her passion for softball. Soon, she was offered a scholarship to Notre Dame. In a wild turn of events, after Marotti’s move to Ohio, Maddie did not feel like herself. She noticed bruises and red dots over her body.

After further examination, she and her parents discovered she had Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Maddie was put on medication, and during that time, Mickey and Susan were with her throughout her surgery. Then she began to recover and resume softball and is now among the support staff for football at Ohio State. Mitchell is a football operations coordinator at the University of Cincinnati.
