

“I was very fortunate to grow up as his son… so much of what I’m about as a coach is what I took from my dad.” Shane Beamer stated of his father. Having a coach father is undoubtedly something that makes his young one feel proud to be a coach. So as for Shane. He became the HC of the Gamecocks, carrying on his father’s legacy. His father left a spectacular legacy in the sport as the HC of the Virginia Tech Hokies for almost thirty years. As a result, Shane has frequently talked about how much his father has influenced his coaching career. So simply, his coaching philosophy on the lessons that he learned from his father. Despite feeling proud of his father, he became emotional while describing the highs and lows of a coach’s career.
In a video clip posted on Instagram on November 20, Adam Breneman wrote, “Shane Beamer told me what it was like to grow up with his Dad, coaching legend Frank Beamer.” Shane portrays his father as his primary mentor in this video, saying, “Growing up around Locker room and being around football my entire life was awesome. And I was able to experience things that kids my age don’t get to the highs and the lows of the profession. What a thin line it is between winning and losing. And he says that all the time as well.” Then, Shane lost self-control and displayed his unfiltered emotions when recounting his father’s coaching history.

Shane stated, “I mean, people think of Virginia Tech the way that it finished during his career. But you know, people don’t remember that it took him till his seventh season at Virginia Tech to get to a bowl game. He had a losing season in 87, a losing season in 89, won six in 89 and 90, a losing season in 91, and 91 in two games. And in 92. Like today’s time, he would have been fired long before.” It merely shows Shane’s understanding of his father’s difficulties during his coaching career.

If you are not aware, born March 31, 1977, Shane is one of Frank’s two kids and has carried on his father’s legacy. Both Frank and Shane strongly believe that family is essential. The closeness between Shane Beamer and Frank
Their common ideals and experiences define their partnership. Shane said that during games, he frequently finds himself using tactics and demeanors that are evocative of his father’s coaching style. Frank was hired as Virginia Tech’s HC in December 1986, taking over a program that had suffered from subpar play and NCAA infractions. The Hokies became a formidable force in collegiate football under his direction. He was the most successful coach in Virginia Tech’s history, with a record of 238 wins, 121 losses, and two ties over 29 seasons.
Shane joined South Carolina in 2021, following in his father’s footsteps. Since then, he has guided his team in two bowl games (2021 and 2022). For the first time under Beamer’s direction, the team missed a bowl game in 2023 after struggling with a 5-7 record. And under Shane’s direction, the Gamecocks are 7-2 this season, raising the possibility that they will qualify for the playoffs.
