“Happy Mother’s Day my beautiful, smart, strong, funny, chef Mommy,” Deiondra Sanders wrote five years ago and posted an image with her mom, Carolyn Chambers. And that’s what Mother’s Day always meant to Deiondra: Dedicating the day to her mother, reminiscing about childhood memories, and feeling grateful. But come 2024, the concept of the occasion started to evolve. After all, she was pregnant with her first child, and that left her wondering, “Does this count as my first Mothers Day? Or not yet?”

Well, she was not quite sure last year, but one thing she does know is that having her son, Snow, has been the biggest blessing in her life. “I love Snow so much. I really don’t even know what my life woulda been without him now,” wrote Deiondra Sanders on X three months ago. She gave birth in August 2o24, and since then, she has embraced motherhood with a visible and heartfelt passion, constantly gushing about her precious baby boy online. In fact, last month, she tweeted, “I take Snow everywhere with me. Only time he can’t come is when I go out the country but that’s cause he doesn’t have a passport yet. I be missing him so much when I’m not with him. I love being able to take him everywhere with me. A true blessing!”

These sentiments have only strengthened as Mother’s Day is approaching fast on May 11. So it looks like she is quite excited to celebrate the occasion not just as a daughter but as a mother herself. She took to X and wrote: “It’s going to be my first Mother’s Day. Every one keeps asking me what imma do.” While she did share her excitement, she did not reveal her plans!

There ought to be something special, considering she even celebrated Valentine’s Day in February with her son Snow. She wrote on Instagram, “Roses are red, violets are blue, my little Valentine—will always be you! This Valentine’s Day isn’t about what we lack, but about the love that overflows right in front of us. To all the moms celebrating with their little loves, know that this kind of love is the sweetest of all.”

In another post, she wrote something straight from her heart to her baby boy: “Being your mom gave my life meaning. It’s not something I say lightly. You saved me, in ways I’ll never be able to explain.” Her beautiful message is as honest as it is moving. She isn’t just celebrating her son—she’s crediting him with transforming her life. The proud mother regularly posts about her son on social media. In one of her recent posts from April, she wrote: “I’m in line holding Snow and someone asked, “Is that your little boy.” I said yes omg i still can’t believe I’m really a mom lol I love it here.” But do you know what’s interesting about Snow?

He was born on August 9, the same day as his grandfather. Deion Sanders, now “Paw Paw” to Snow, was filled with pride and emotion, sharing his joy publicly. “God is good,” he wrote at the time. The Sanders family, always larger than life, wrapped their arms around the newest addition with love and celebration. From the beginning, Snow has been more than just a new chapter—he’s been a bridge between generations. And for Deiondra, he’s also been a source of strength in her most uncertain moments.

Behind the Joy: The struggles Deiondra didn’t expect!

Behind the smiles and sweet messages, Deiondra’s journey hasn’t been easy. In fact, she recently revealed that the early months of motherhood were far more difficult than she ever anticipated. She endured fibroids, miscarriage scares, a shortened cervix, and multiple procedures, including a cerclage and myomectomies. Despite having support, resources, and family by her side, her road to motherhood wasn’t smooth.

She talked about her postpartum depression. In a moment of honest reflection on The Baller Alert Show on April 10, she said, “I didn’t really think it was that real because I was like, ‘Oh, I have a lot of help, you know. I don’t think I’ll be going through it.’ But it hit me hard. I still had so much help, and I still have so much help, and it’s still thoughts that I’m like, why do I think like this?”

Deiondra detailed the overwhelming wave of emotions, including intrusive thoughts and moments of helplessness, even as she tried to focus on the joy of having her baby in her arms. She stated that no amount of preparation truly readies someone for the emotional complexities of motherhood.

“That Deiondra before Snow is gone and I have to be okay with that and start to live with myself as a new person, as a mother.”

In sharing her story, Deiondra is doing more than just opening up—she’s breaking the stigma. By putting her struggles with postpartum depression into the spotlight, she’s letting other moms know it’s okay to not have it all figured out. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to be vulnerable. Her love for Snow remains the anchor through it all. That’s why her words—“You saved me”—carry such weight. Because even in her hardest moments, motherhood has given her purpose, perspective, and, in her own words, meaning.
