The ATP Cup is one of the best tournaments that take place during the early days of the season. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was held in Melbourne (same as the Australian Open) this year to restrict the moment of players to various venues during such crucial times.

The 2022 edition of the ATP Cup is looking likely to be held in Sydney this season. Taking note of this, New South Wales Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres was happy with the decision. Overall, it is a positive development which would benefit the city. It is an important event as it is held prior to the first Grand Slam event of the season, the Australian Open

The Minister stated, “Marquee sporting events like the ATP Cup are important to NSW for the significant boost they provide to our state’s visitor economy. The ATP Cup attracts the world’s best tennis players, officials, and their supporters to the Greater Sydney area, who stay in our hotels, visit our attractions, and spend in our retail stores, restaurants, bars, and cafes.”

ATP Cup is perfect for the players ahead of Australian Open 

Due to COVID-19, there are many institutions and various businesses that have taken a hit. To host the event in Sydney has been welcomed by the governing officials. This event provides a good warm-up for players prior to the Australian Open.

The 40-year-old added, “It has been a challenging year for Sydney, but we have made swift progress following the NSW Government’s COVID-19 reopening roadmap. As we continue on our path to reopening we know events like the ATP Cup will play a vital role in our social and economic recovery.”

The ATP Cup is a tournament in which players represent their nations. There are two countries that compete against each other and the team that wins between them proceeds to the following round. In the 2021 edition, Russia beat Italy in the final. It will be interesting to see which team wins in the following season.
