NBA commissioner Adam Silver gave some respite to the fans eagerly waiting for some action in NBA. Talking to Rachael Nichols of ESPN, Silver said that the NBA has been discussing a possible charity game.

It has been a week since the NBA has suspended its league. The decision to suspend came after Rudy Gobert became the first positive coronavirus case in the NBA. Not long after, his teammate Donovan Mitchell and later Detroit Pistons’ Christian Wood also tested positive for the dreaded virus.

Silver initially believed that the league would remain in a suspended state for “at least 30 days”. However, with the increasing threat of the virus across the world, it becomes much more indefinite now. Recently, Brooklyn Nets announced four more positive coronavirus cases which included Kevin Durant.

While the fans have been waiting for the league to resume, Silver said: “One of the things we have been talking about are there conditions in which a group of players can compete for a giant fundraiser for the collective good of the people.

“Is there a protocol where the players can be tested, quarantined or isolated in some way and they can compete against each other because people are stuck at home and I think they need a diversion and I think they need to be entertained.”

While Silver talked about a one-off exhibition game, the resumption of the NBA season still remains in jeopardy. After initial talks that the league would resume after a month, recent reports suggested that it would be June before the league resumes.

Amidst the uncertainty, Silver remained positive about the league’s resumption. “I’m optimistic by nature, and I want to believe that we’re going to be able to salvage at least some portion of this season,” he said.
