With the National Basketball Association (NBA) suspended because of the Coronavirus, players could see a reduction in their salaries. News conglomerate ESPN reported that the NBA and the NBPA (National Basketball Players’ Association) may reduce up to 25% from the players’ remaining salaries.

It has been almost three weeks now since the NBA was called off. Further, there is no news of the league resuming anytime soon. The suspension came after NBA’s first positive coronavirus case in Rudy Gobert. Although Utah Jazz has cleared Gobert, there remain a few more cases of the dreaded virus in the league that includes Brooklyn Nets star, Kevin Durant.

Under these circumstances, the resumption of the league in the near future looks highly unlikely. However, though officials remain strong on wanting to resume the league, it would be difficult to do it without losing any games. As per ESPN’s reports, the cut in players’ salaries will depend on the number of regular season games that could be canceled.

The reports also talked about a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), in which players could lose around 1% of their salaries per canceled game.

NBA wants to resume the season at all costs

A resumption in the near future seems highly unlikely. However, the league is not discounting the idea of the season stretching till September. Unfortunately, it still could mean that there can be a loss in regular season games. If it does happen, the players might lose a part of their salaries.
