Patrick Mahomes has earned himself a place in the history books! Not that he was not an outstanding quarterback before. But today’s victory has put him on the list of legends. It was a much-anticipated game, to say the least. Tyreek Hill was returning to Arrowhead. And he had vengeance in his heart. The Chiefs had traded him away in 2022. Now he wanted to come back and defeat them in their home stadium.

But unfortunately for him, the Chiefs defense shut him down. While we cannot say for sure that Mahomes had a lot to contribute to the game, a win is a win, right? And now the 28-year-old has 12 career playoff wins under his belt.

Consider this: Aaron Rodgers has been in the league for almost two decades now. Patrick Mahomes? Seven. But in that span, he has already overtaken Rodgers in terms of playoff wins. A-Rod has 11, which translates to almost one every two years. Mahomes’ rate is one, almost every half year!

Roger Staubach, you might better know him as “Captain America”, has won 11 playoff games as well. And he achieved this over an eleven-year span. That is still less admirable a feat than Mahomes. Now he has just seven more players to overcome before he reaches the top. At the top awaits, the GOAT of football, Tom Brady with a whopping 35 wins! That’s more than twice the second name on the list. Joe Montana has 16 wins. How much to overcome Brett Favre? Just one. That might just happen during the Divisional Round.

But tonight’s win did not come easy for Mahomes. The breaking point, excuse the pun, came when he literally broke his helmet.

As the third quarter wore on, Mahomes’ helmet broke. How did it happen? He rushed with the ball and picked up 13 yards for the first down. Just then, Dolphins Safety DeShon Elliott tackled him to the ground. Their helmets collided, but only Mahomes’ helmet yielded. A big part of the helmet whizzed off. But did that stop him from playing? No way!

The referees themselves did not interfere and let the game continue. Only after a couple of plays did it strike them to ask him to change his helmet. No concussion protocol was conducted on Mahomes. This seemed to be an oversight since all head-to-head collisions invite a concussion check.

We’re hoping that Mahomes is safe, and gets thoroughly examined after the game. If something happens to him, the Chiefs’ Super Bowl dreams are as good as over.

I am a hardcore believer in the ?Mamba Mentality?, which certainly applies to the NFL. The sport is not just about physical prowess but also demands a powerful mindset. Growing up, I spent time with athletes on the neighborhood soccer field.
