An unexpected addition to their family tree? Russell Wilson and Ciara won’t mind because it is none other than of one of the best shortstops in the history of baseball, Derek Jeter. Yes! Jeter and Ciara are DNA cousins. The singer was on the latest episode of ‘Finding Your Roots’, hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr on PBS. She was dumbfounded when Gates announced, “Derek Jeter is your cousin.”

The connection between Ciara and Jeter is their “long identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome,” as explained by Gates. In fact, previously, Jeter was on the show to explore his ancestry. Now Russell Wilson has reacted to this unexpected connection between his wife and Derek Jeter. What did he say?

Did Russell Wilson know it all along?

Well, Ciara was surprised by the connection but her husband wasn’t. “Always knew it!” he wrote on Twitter (now X) and tagged his wife and Jeter. This is the first time Wilson has stated anything in public after posting his highlights reel video after he was declared to be benched against the Los Angeles Chargers.

When Derek Jeter had previously appeared on the same show, he too found out something interesting about his heritage. He learned that in 1872, his great-great-grandfather Green Jeter founded a church in Alabama that remains active to this day.
