The tension at Raymond James Stadium during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. San Francisco 49ers game spilled over to the sidelines when wide receiver Jauan Jennings reportedly got into a heated exchange with head coach Kyle Shanahan at the end of the first half. When asked about it after the game, the WR gave an unusual response.

“You have to ask him,” Jennings told the press in the locker room. The pressure undeniably was high as the team entered halftime staring at a 20-16 deficit that would snowball into a 30-19 loss.

But while he didn’t comment further on the sideline argument caught on camera, coach Shanahan addressed the situation during the presser.

“It was just an intense, competitive conversation between two people at the end of the second quarter, but we’re good,” Shanahan said.

As for Jennings, the frustration likely stemmed from not being targeted in the first half. That being said, he didn’t do himself any favors in the second half either as he got flagged for two penalties for 15 yards. He finished the game with just one catch for seven yards.

Moreover, coach Shanahan’s intention could have been to play it safe with the wide receiver, who’s one of the many 49ers who have been plagued by injuries this season.

With wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jordan Watkings sidelined from the game, having Jennings available was more important than ever for the team. And it was not like he was completely fit either.

Jauan Jennings reveals scary injury details

It’s only Week 6, and Jennings has struggled with a multitude of injuries already.

“Playing with injuries, it’s part of it,” Jennings said after the game. “You got high and low ankle sprains. You got shoulders at 20%. You got five broken ribs. It is what it is. You keep playing. Nobody cares. You keep playing. That’s what we do.”

His injury struggles have been a recurring issue since the start of the year. He missed most of training camp because of a calf issue. He then sustained a shoulder injury in Week 1, then an ankle sprain in Week 2 that cost him Week 3. Then came the rib injury during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which forced him to miss Week 5.

Despite the string of injuries, Jennings isn’t complaining. “I love pain,” he said. “I wouldn’t be playing this sport if I didn’t. It’s part of it. You gotta enjoy every little thing that comes with it, and pain is one of those.”

It would be interesting to see how Kyle Shanahan deals with the WR going forward.
