Just as you think there can’t be any more injuries in the San Francisco 49ers, they land with some more names. This time, head coach Kyle Shanahan‘s 49ers have concerns about 18 players who had a questionable status on Wednesday’s practice.

“49ers injury report: Bad news: There are 18 49ers,” Matt Barrows reported on X. “Good: Connor Colby (groin), Colton McKivitz (calf) & Dee Winters (shoulder) aren’t listed. Seems like Colby will be the LG for next two weeks….Ben Bartch (ankle) is not on track to be activated from IR next week.”
Leading the injury list is quarterback Brock Purdy. He did not participate in Wednesday’s (October 8) practice due to his toe injury that he sustained after getting tackled by a defender in the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks. Fortunately, it didn’t turn out to be serious, and he returned to the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after missing two games. Since he is not in IR, there’s a chance that he might show up in Week 6. On the other hand, the backup quarterback is also in trouble.

Mac Jones had limited participation due to his knee and oblique issues. Besides them, defensive end Robert Beal also didn’t participate due to his ankle issue. If he were to miss the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team would rely on defensive ends Yetur Gross-Matos and Sam Okuayinonu.

However, Gross-Matos also missed the practice due to his knee and hamstring issues. It’s the defense line that took a major hit this time. Defensive tackle Alfred Collins, who suffered a knee sprain during the 26 – 23 overtime win against the Los Angeles Rams, didn’t suit up for action this practice.
Defensive tackle Kalia Davis is also dealing with a hand injury. However, he saw limited practice on Wednesday. Among the non-participants was also wide receiver Jauan Jennings. He has been dealing with his shoulder and ankle since the beginning of this season. He played through these two injuries against Jacksonville, but was on a snap count. Unfortunately, he hurt his ribs during that game.
He is unlikely to suit up for another extremely physical game against the Bucs. The wide receivers’ room in Kyle Shanahan’s team was the most sensitive place this season, with many injuries.
And there was always a fear of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall getting injured. And it happened. He is dealing with his knee/PCL injury that he sustained in Week 4, the week that saw many players go down with injuries.
Wide receiver Jordan Watkins has been out all season with ankle and calf injuries, and he still hasn’t been able to practice. So, he is unlikely to play in Week 6. Running back Christian McCaffrey and tackle Trent Williams also missed the game, but due to non-injury-related issues.
There is still hope for the defensive tackle Kevin Givens (pectoral injury), cornerback Upton Stout (ankle), and defensive tackle CJ West (thumb) to be present for the game. All saw limited participation.
Now, with so many injuries piling up, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers might face the pressure to make a big move before the trade deadline. But the truth is, the 49ers are dealing with issues across multiple positions. So, would bringing in a single key player fix things? Only time will tell us, but as of now, the focus is on Week 6.
The 49ers have struggled with injuries before, and led the team to a dominating start, and they will look to do the same again. But on the other side, the Buccaneers aren’t exactly in great shape either, with multiple key players dealing with injuries.
Are the Buccaneers healthy this week to face the injury-ridden Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers?
For Tampa Bay, both wide receivers Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin Jr. (fibula) did not practice on Wednesday. Much to the Bucs’ disappointment, there’s a chance that these WRs might miss Week 6.
And head coach Todd Bowles’ comment seems to indicate that Evans might need some more time in recovery. He also missed the last two games. “He’s coming along,” he told via Greg Auman. “He’s healing. I can’t tell you how fast or when, but he’s healing, and he’s working, trying to get back fast as he can.”
Godwin Jr.’s absence was both expected and understandably worrying. He finally returned to the field in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. This is nearly 11 months after he was carted off due to his ankle injury that he sustained in a game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Now, a fibula injury only raises more concern. Running back Bucky Irving, who is dealing with both foot and shoulder injuries, also sat out. He is expected to miss at least 2 weeks. And this leaves a question about the availability of the three players.

In the secondary, cornerbacks Zyon McCollum (thumb) and Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) missed practice, and Jamel Dean (hip) was limited. Linebacker Lavonte David (knee), safety Christian Izien (quad), and tackle Tristan Wirfs (knee) all practiced in a limited capacity.
This will be a tough one for the two teams, with both sides missing key pieces from the game.
