The San Francisco 49ers not only lost to the Los Angeles Rams, but the rough stint continued beyond the gridiron. The NFL decided to punish the Niners’ linebacker Tatum Bethune for his moves against the Rams in the Week 10 contest.

The league issued an official fine report following the Week 10 matchups on Saturday. Bethune faced two separate fines, both of which were for unnecessary roughness. The first one was for the second quarter, where Bethune lowered his helmet on a tackle. However, he wasn’t penalized for this, but the league committee decided to hit him with a $5,446 fine on review.

He was called for another move during the third quarter, which was again for an unnecessary roughness play. However, there was no involvement of the helmet; the league issued him with just a $5,447 fine. He was even penalized on this with a 15-yard penalty.

In total, Tatum has nearly $11,000 in fines to pay for his Week 10 punishment. Despite all this, he had a good game. Before the game, he was questionable to even play it because of a thigh injury, but the seventh-round pick from the 2024 draft fought through it and played 96 percent of defensive snaps, as he is filling in for the 49ers’ star LB, Fred Warner.

In Week 10, Bethune had ten tackles, making it his fifth game straight with a double-digit recorded tackles. His performance has been positive for the 49ers, especially in Warner’s absence. He has developed very rapidly, especially when we look at his rookie season, where he played in 11 games, with only one start, and most of his snaps came with special teams.

Even in the loss to the Rams, the 24-year-old LB openly acknowledged the execution issue on the team.

“Just being dialed in all the time, each and every day — walk-throughs, practice, being in the meeting rooms,” Bethune said. “We just got to stay dialed in. And once we do that and [are] able to be locked in on the field too on game days, like, I feel like the situation will be solved. So we just got to get it down, honestly.”

He summed it up as the 49ers have to take their ‘locked in’ energy from preparation to the games.

”We don’t want it to be a rollercoaster,” he said. ”I don’t think [any] team wants to be a roller coaster … The whole team, we just want to be able to get on the track, where we just go on a run.”

While Bethune was dealing with NFL punishment, head coach Kyle Shanahan made some major roster moves.

Kyle Shanahan’s roster move before facing the Cardinals

The 49ers made a double roster move before their game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Niners’ cornerback Deommodore Lenoir suffered a calf injury while practicing this week; therefore, he might be out for Sunday’s game. Hence, the 49ers elevated cornerback Eli Apple from the practice squad.

He has played only one game for them this season, which was in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Lenoir is out, Darell Luter Jr. might step up in his place.

On the other hand, they also added a defensive end, Clelin Ferrell, to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. With the Cardinals game barely a day away, expect quarterback Brock Purdy to also be back in the action.
