One of the biggest picks for the 49ers is still on the way. As Kyle Shanahan looks ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, his upcoming move will impact Brock Purdy, potentially changing the game and setting the stage for a new chapter in the team’s offensive line and overall approach.

According to PFF’s mock draft, the San Francisco 49ers are looking for a hulking beast who can protect Brock Purdy. While talks for the quarterback’s contract extension are underway, let’s discuss the offensive tackle making headlines. The reporter wrote, “PFF’s latest mock draft has the 49ers trading up to 8th and selecting Missouri OT Armand Membou.” With this draft pick, reportedly, the 49ers might trade the 11th pick and 100th pick to the Panthers to secure the 8th overall pick.

According to PFF’s original draft, “The 49ers move up three spots to get ahead of New Orleans and take Membou. He’s a perfect scheme fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense.” The mock draft also says, “Membou played the ninth-most outside-zone run snaps at Missouri in 2024 while posting an excellent 80.7 PFF run-blocking grade. He joins Dominick Puni to form a potentially dominant right side of San Francisco’s offensive line.” Armand Membou also performed well at the NFL Combine, scoring 85 marks to rank 3rd among offensive tackles.

It’s crucial for any team to have a tackle to create space for the quarterback. As Brock Purdy throws around 40% of his passes blindly, this additional room will help him develop further and even give him more time to get out of the pocket and pass the ball.

John Lynch, on March 30, said, “We’ll try to improve our offensive line through the draft, but there are a lot of good pieces there already,” when he was asked about the offensive line. After this, he put a stop to rumors suggesting that the 49ers would not pick Armand Membou. “We like our right tackle. We like our center. At left guard, we have some candidates in-house right now. But will we look to add in the draft? Certainly,” Lynch said. While the team may be planning to trade up, John Lynch is confident about Brock Purdy’s contract extension.

Brock Purdy’s contract extension drama continues with the GM’s recent statement

Purdy intensified the extension drama when he stated earlier this offseason that he hopes to finalize a deal by mid-April to avoid missing any team activities. No one can argue that he deserves his contract extension. The 2022 seventh-round pick has played three seasons with the 49ers. He is now eligible to receive a nearly $50 million per year deal from the Niners.

Talking about Brock Purdy’s extension, John Lynch sounded confident, saying, “I think we’re going to get the deal done. That’s what I believe. We’ll just leave it at that.” The 49ers’ GM also added, “I don’t think it’s too optimistic. I think I understand why Brock wants that. We’d like that very much, so we’ve just got to find that right place for both sides, and I would love nothing more than for that to be the case.” Purdy’s stats scream: Hand me that contract extension.

In 2024, the 49ers’ No. 13 was 7th in QB ratings after throwing 20 touchdowns, passing for 3,864 yards, and completing 300 of 455 passes. In rushing attempts, he also scored a total of eight touchdowns throughout his career.

Purdy currently earns an average of $934,252 per year. And he is aiming for? Nearly $50 million per year, reportedly. It would be interesting to see how John Lynch tackles those thumping numbers.
