Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets had Aaron Rodgers fly cross country “on my own dime,” only to tell the QB that they do not need him anymore. As many put it, that was a clear “disrespect.” But guess what? The unflinching reality continued in the Big Apple till Tuesday. And it seems, the head coach and the franchise aren’t showing any mercy towards the veterans.
According to the reports, Aaron Glenn’s Jets cut down fans’ favorite and the Super Bowl champ, punter Thomas Morstead. Yes! Reporter Jeff Duncan mentioned this on his official X account, giving out some more details of the newly-released player.
He said, “Until his release today, Thomas Morstead was one of just two players from the 2009 NFL Draft still active in the league. The other: Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 overall pick that year. A future Saints Hall of Famer, Morstead is 40 shy of 1,000 career punts.” But now he is back on the market, and Saints fans are already feeling that familiar tug.

At 39, Morstead is still booming punts like few ever have. In 16 seasons deep, he was the second among active players in total punts and punting yards, with a career gross average that puts him in the top 15 in league history. But in New Orleans, he was more than stats.
Drafted in 2009, Morstead owned that punter spot for 12 solid seasons and gave the city one of its most iconic moments. Yeah, who could forget Super Bowl XLIV? Down at the half, Morstead kicked off the second with that gutsy onside kick – Ambush, and it changed everything. The Saints recovered, scored, and stormed to their first championship. Since he left, no one’s truly replaced him.
Perhaps, that’s what Aaron Glenn’s Jets might think about him after losing him. But why did the franchise take this drastic decision? Well, as per the reports, it was done in favor of signing undrafted rookie Kai Kroeger. Now that he’s free again, you can’t help but wonder… is the door still open in New Orleans? That’s another matter of debate. Until then, the Jets are likely to move forward to make another eye-catching shift this offseason.

Aaron Glenn is ready to trade another big name?
After unfolding the dramas of famous players of the roster, such as Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Glenn might be back with another major move. We are talking about Allen Lazard. Yes! The wide receiver might be packing his bags again, and this time, Pittsburgh could be his next chapter, a team that is also waiting for Rodgers. So, if it happens, the duo can meet up again.

The talk’s heating up, and it’s all starting to feel like déjà vu, just like when Rodgers left Green Bay and brought Lazard with him to the Jets. But here’s the deal: Lazard hasn’t lived up to the hype in New York. Too many drops, not enough fire. In 2023, he only caught 23 passes for 311 yards and one TD over 12 games. However, when Rodgers returned, he showed a bit of improvement by catching 37 passes for 530 yards and six TDs. So, a reunion might be helpful for the Steel City.

However, on the other hand, New York fans are frustrated, and honestly, even with Garrett Wilson and Arian Smith, that receiver room still feels thin. So, if the Jets decide to let him go, it could be a blessing in disguise for Pittsburgh, and perhaps a curse for the Aaron Glenn’s team!
