The New York Jets won their Week 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals (39-38), but the real challenge still awaits. The team is currently facing a tough quarterback situation with Tyrod Taylor out amid an unexpected injury (knee). While Justin Fields’ name seemed to be the right fit amid Taylor’s absence, their head coach, Aaron Glenn, remained firm on his decision not to make the final call yet.

Questions regarding the Jets’ starting quarterback ahead of their upcoming game surrounded Aaron Glenn in a recent press conference. However, the head coach came up with a strict denial to provide an update on the strategy. He stalled the queries with an intriguing “you will find out” remark.
“I’m not going to give you that answer. So the thing is, you will find out soon who our starting quarterback will be,” he said. Further admitting to Fields’ commendable backup, he added, “Justin did a hell of a job against Cincinnati. But, you know, I’m going to keep that close to the vest. This is to be followed here.”

Taylor has been sidelined because of a knee injury and was officially ruled out ahead of Week 8 for the New York Jets. He suffered the setback after a helmet impact on his surgically repaired knee and missed travel with the team for the Bengals game.

Amid Taylor’s absence, Justin Fields stepped in and delivered commendable results. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 244 yards and one touchdown, leading the Jets to a 39-38 comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals. His improved reading of defenses, timely throws under pressure, and a cleaner pocket helped him make the best out of the elevated opportunity.
However, even with Fields’ strong performance, questions linger about his standing with the team. The only hope is that the situation does not affect the in-form player’s confidence.
Aaron Glenn clarifies no harm to Justin Fields’ confidence
Glenn is firm in his decision to withhold publicly naming a starter at quarterback. This move comes with a serious risk of lowering Justin Fields’ confidence. That being said, the head coach carries a different opinion on the matter. According to him, frequent conversations between a coach and a player keep the chemistry healthy.

“It helps the quarterback’s confidence when the player and coach talk, and they know who the guy is, not that I’m telling it to you guys,” Glenn said. “That has nothing to do with the player’s confidence.”
Currently, the New York Jets stand at 1 win and 7 losses for the season, placing them near the bottom of the AFC East. Their next match is against the Cleveland Browns, and Glenn has also expressed hope that veteran Tyrod Taylor will resume practice soon, with the capacity remaining a secret.
