It was April 11, 2025, when Abdul Carter posted a picture of the Giants legend Lawrence Taylor on his X handle. The picture had “Once a Giant, always a Giant” clearly written across it. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport later reposted it. And then all of a sudden, people started to confirm that the Giants may not pick a QB, basically Shedeur Sanders, but an edge like Carter instead. So, when the Giants snapped him up 3rd overall, it was not a shock.

The shock is his resurfaced tweet that is going viral. Fans are reacting in all sorts of ways after discovering Carter’s old tweet to Giants’ bitter rivals and 2024 Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, following his selection. On February 9, he had dropped a 4-word message, “Somebody grab my belt.” And added, “Go Birds,” with emojis of Eagles following their Super Bowl LIX win!

So, now, as a Giant, he will be competing against his favorite team and the Giants’ divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. The fan in him might have wanted to get drafted to the Eagles, but being so good at his craft, the 32nd overall pick was impossible. But he didn’t hide his love for the Philly team. In a recent interview, Abdul Carter had said, “I really just got to enjoy my last year really being a fan. Being from Philly, born and raised, supporting the Eagles really my whole life.” Then he added more and said that if the Giants picked him up, he would be loyal to them.

“I got to take my dad to the Super Bowl. Just enjoyed being a fan last year. Whatever team drafts me, I’m loyal to that team,” Abdul said. But hold on, what he said before was worth knowing. The star edge rusher said, “Once I go to New York, I’m all New York–I’m going to have to leave Philly behind.” Well, he’s going to New York. Time to be a pro now.

As expected, the Giants picked up the defensive end, Abdul Carter. And “We were just fortunate to be able to land him” was GM Joe Schoen‘s first reaction after the 3rd overall pick. He also added, “As long as the process is, you go through it, you go through it.” The GM added, “This wasn’t an easy decision, but throughout the process, it became an easy decision that led us to today.” Penn State’s defensive phenomenon is now officially a Giant.

Well, the GM probably said it was not an easy decision because they also wanted to draft a quarterback. But things changed at the last minute. But with their first pick of the 2025 Draft, they bagged a solid defender projected to go far in the big league. The Giants did manage to bag a QB, trading up into the first round with the Texans for the 25th overall pick. But it wasn’t the one many expected, as they ignored Shedeur Sanders in favor of Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart

Anyhow, Brian Daboll will be happy. The HC once said about Carter, “He’s got great quickness, bend, he’s hard to block. He played off the ball, and he has some instincts in that area, as well. Smart.” He kept an eye on the defensive player, who made 68 total tackles in the 2024 NCAA season, along with sacking QBs 12 times. Well, now he will be lining up for the Big Blue in the upcoming season. Now, the only question remains for the Giants is: Who will be the starting QB – Jameis Winston or Russell Wilson? Or will Dart end up pulling a fast one over those veterans, too?
