On Saturday, when all TV screens would be tuned to college football and not the NFL, Bill Belichick will be auditioning on national TV. Has he finally decided to hang up his microphone and transition from the sidelines to the studio? Many New England Patriots fans would wish it were so. But no, Belichick has been selected as the designated guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay program. But that has piqued some people’s imagination: Can we envision a career for Belichick in broadcast TV?

That is what Front Office Sports discussed on one of their shows, and they made a solid case for why he should jump the sinking Patriots ship and into the studio.

Can Bill Belichick become the greatest NFL analyst of all time?

Belichick is already the “most successful head coach of all time” having led the Pats to 6 Super Bowl Championships. But ever since Tom Brady left the Pats, they haven’t made it to the playoffs in four years. And the path has already been laid out for him. Many coaches have moved to an analyst role after leaving the gridiron sidelines. Bill’s mentor, Bill Parcells, himself was an analyst at ESPN, and coach Jimmy Johnson went to Fox Sports.

With rumors running wild that owner Robert Kraft may pull the plug on the 71-year-old, an analyst role seems lucrative. There in the studio, he will finally be reunited with his star QB Tom Brady who had recently signed a decade-long, $375 million deal to become the network’s No. 1 game analyst. But what sort of analyst will Bill turn out to be?

He is known for his poker face and his monosyllabic answers to the media during interviews. Many people are wondering how he will thrive in a role where he will need to speak for long. He will have to pour out his knowledge of the game that he has mastered over so many decades. But does Bill need the role? Or should he walk off into the sunset to his family for a quiet retirement life?

Belichick can make millions in his new role

Belichick does not need the money. He is the highest-paid coach in the NFL right now and rakes in $20 million a year. The next highest-paid coach, Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks, earns $15 million. If he does not want to settle for a quiet life, he could earn anywhere from $8 million to $10 million as a studio analyst and twice as much as a network’s No. 1 game analyst, the same role as Brady’s.

And it’s not like it will be something entirely new for him. For his work on the show “NFL 100 All-Time Team”, he was nominated for a Sports Emmy for “Outstanding Sports Personality — Studio Analyst”. As one TV executive told Front Office Sports, “If he really wants to explore TV, every network world would take that phone call. And I mean everyone.”
