The Giants have tried hard since the 2023 offseason to lock down Saquon Barkley long-term. However, after losing D’Andre Swift, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to throw a wrench in the New York team’s plans. According to reports, they are the top contender to sign one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason.

Last year, the NY team could not agree to a contract extension with Barkley. And the saga continued this season as well. With mere hours remaining before the free agency deadline, it looks like Barkley will play for a new team in 2024!

The Giants drafted Barkley in the 2018 NFL Draft in the first round. The Penn State graduate was the second overall pick. And the 27-year-old lived up to his billing. However, the Giants could not agree to his salary demands two years in a row. Now their bitter rivals are reported to have turned the situation in their favor.

Last year, the Giants used their franchise tag to hold on to the RB. The expectations were that they would end up doing the same this year as well. Since the franchise tag window has passed and an extension deal is not in sight, Barkley will be a free agent in a few hours.

D’Andre Swift, the current starter at the RB position, was traded by the Eagles to the Chicago Bears. Now they are in desperate need of a speedster at that position. Even though Swift had his best season ever under the Eagles banner last year, Barkley will be an upgrade.

And the RB could enjoy linking up with a ferocious QB like Jalen Hurts. The success of the Eagles, especially after the departure of Jason Kelce, will depend on this partnership for the coming seasons.
