A coach can make or break a player’s confidence, and Tua Tagovailoa‘s comments about Brian Flores have been making waves since 19th August for the same reason. And guess what? It didn’t escape the eyes of the ex-Cowboys player, Chris Canty, as he shared his thoughts on 20th August.

As shared by UnSportsESPN on X, Canty didn’t hold back while he said, “The comments that Tua made on the Le Batard Show did for me is eliminate every single excuse as to why the Miami Dolphins can’t win their division, can’t win a playoff game.” Well, the Fins couldn’t carry their 3-game lead in the AFC East last season. In addition, the former DL emphasized that, per Tagovailoa, Flores was the ‘impediment‘ to his progress with the Dolphins. But that’s not all.

Canty emphasized, “You got the contract there, you got the head coach that’s loving up on you—now it’s time for you to produce.” And this wasn’t the first time Chris talked of the QB’s $212.4m contract with the Miami Dolphins, as he has previously compared it to a ‘gas station sushi,’ implying that it’s bound to be regrettable. It looks like Tagovailoa’s comments on Flores have closed all doors for excuses if he fails this season. In the words of Canty, “If you don’t win the division, if you don’t win a playoff game, I don’t want to hear about health being a concern”. And he isn’t wrong with these expectations from the QB and the Fins.
Last season, the Dolphins’ QB met with a serious injury on his left shoulder while he scrambled on a 4th-and-13 play against the Ravens on Week 17. And that’s not all, his 2021 and 2022 seasons were full of injuries like fractures in his hand and chest ribs, as well as multiple cranial concussions. It seems like the major reason for the Fins’ underperformance in the last seasons is the QB’s injuries.
So, the spotlight is now on Tua as the team prepares for the coming season. But, how’s it looking like for him so far?

Tua Tagovailoa’s road to the Super Bowl?
Tagoailoa’s preseason debut on 17th August was an absolute stunner as he completed all 5 passes for 51 yards, and the TD pass came as a cherry on the cake. And his outstanding performance in the absence of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle seemed quite impressive to HC Mike McDaniel, as he said, “I thought it was just us executing some of our day-one concepts.” Well, it looks like Tua’s impressive play was not something similar to what he did under Brian Flores.

Back then, the rookie QB only managed to cover only 4,467 passing yards in 21 games under Flores. And, the entry of Mike seemed to have unlocked Tua’s true potential as he completed 8,127 passing yards in the last 2 seasons. Furthermore, the rookie QB was also selected for the Pro Bowl in 2023.
Well, it seems like Tua Tagovailoa is preparing for a banger this season. But will he be able to lead the Dolphins to the Super Bowls, or the playoffs at least?
