“Ah Man, He Got Me”: David Njoku’s First Half Domination Scares Shannon Sharpe Into Losing His Record

TE David Njoku’s performance against the Jets has stunned Shannon Sharpe. Njoku covering yards like a thunderbolt led to almost breaking Sharpe’s 2002 record that echoes perfection till today. The former Broncos tight end further gave insights on the Cleveland Browns‘ thumping victory 37-20 over the Jets.

The Browns have certainly made a statement by gate-crashing the playoffs second time in four years. Winning four in a row at the end of the line is an absolute testimony to the team’s O-line capabilities. On one hand, it was Joe Flacco, who stunned the Browns’ home stadium playing his best game at 38. On the other, the 27-year-old tight end was nothing less than Flash in this game.

It takes a special effort from a new one to get appreciated by legends. TE David Njoku has done the exact same as he gained respect from the veteran TE. In the latest edition of the ‘Nightcap,’ Sharpe shared his views on the remarkable performance as the Browns beat the Jets.

Sharpe looked scared and addressed OJ, “I thought Njoku would get go my record.” The legendary TE Shannon Sharpe holds the record for amassing most receiving yards (214) in a game. He did the unthinkable in 2002 during his last stint with the Browns. The legend got scared because of Njoku’s first-quarter performance. Njoku covered yards like a walk in the park. The tight end was drafted by the Browns six years ago and has been a mainstay in the team.

Sharpe admitted, “Oh man he got me!” He noticed that in the later stages of the game, “He cooled down substantially.” Sharpe recognized the stats, “He ended the game with a 6 receptions at 134 yards.” Njoku failed to break the two-decade-old record but he further appreciated the Njoku, “He had an outstanding game going.”

After this, OJ was quick to shift his focus on Joe Flacco’s exceptional return and applauded the first drives. He wanted the team to build on the momentum in the second half too, but what Flacco has achieved, everyone has taken notice of Flacco as he is breaking records.

Joe Flacco’s ‘veteran presence’ was much-needed for the Browns

Shannon Sharpe openly said in 2012 that Joe Flacco “has a lot of growing up to do.” Well, Flacco has come a long way and seems like the perfect ‘veteran presence’ the present-day Browns needed. In the above episode, Sharpe commended Flacco by pointing out that he had 296 yards at halftime. Not to mention, he threw three game-changing TD passes, leading to the team’s unbelievable playoff spot.

While Sharpe declared that Aaron Rodgers wasn’t the solution for the Jets, the 38-year-old QB, who played with the Jets for 3 years, turned out to be a game-changer for Kevin Stefanski’s team. The Browns signed Flacco mid-season after losing three starting QBs during the season. The former Jets player the Browns to the playoffs by defeating the same team in a fitting showdown.

Here’s the funny part. After being on the couch for more than half of the season, Flacco turned out to be the team’s instant success recipe. In the last five games, Joe Flacco has amassed the most number of passing yards and touchdowns than any other QB since his return. Now, that’s a keeper!
