The Dallas Cowboys have had a terrible season and dealing with too many challenges. Sometimes it’s the wavering future of HC Mike McCarthy but most of the time the main challenge the Cowboys face is the injuries. The quarterback has already injured and when a cornerback like Trevon Diggs tore ACL in 2023, people and fans thought it was done. But there was one man who shouldered the Cowboys cornerback position- Jourdan Lewis.

But this star CB of Dallas Cowboys cornerback is about to receive bad news at the start of a new year. There are very high chances that the Cowboys #2 will be having a free agency again as the franchise is still having issues with the cornerback position. He was hired by the franchise on a one-year contract as a free agent.

An NFL insider Jon Machota has revealed that Jourdan Lewis wants to stay back in the franchise but it looks like things are going the other way. The NFL insider quoted the Dallas Cowboys CB Jourdan Lewis who has delivered a message to the franchise and Jerry Jones. Upon learning about a potential chance of being a free agent. Jourdan Lewis has said, “Dallas is my home. My kids were born here. We’d love to have another season here, or a few seasons here. My wife loves it. But we understand it’s a business and we don’t know what the front office needs.”

On December 28, Machota also revealed what the Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones thinks about the boiling topic of free agents. Reporters asked Stephen Jones about Jourdan Lewis’s free agency, along with Osa Odighizuwa and RB Rico Dowdle, and he gave a pretty promising reply for all three players. The EVP had said, “We want them back. They’ve shown that they are Dallas Cowboys football players. They’re certainly guys we want to have back, it’s just making all the calculus work when it comes to fitting everybody under the salary cap.” But as the current talks suggest, the franchise may not sign them a big contract.

Actually, Jourdan Lewis’s contribution to the Cowboys is appreciable. His stats back up his worth at all.

Jourdan Lewis’s appreciable contribution to the Cowboys

Lewis, after signing a $3,248,428 four-year deal with the Cowboys in 2017, got hit in the ribs after getting categorized as free agency after the contract. And, in those four years Jourdan had 152 totals out of which 128 were solo. In addition to that he had a total of 6 sacks and 40 assists to be specific. But he didn’t get a full contract after that.

To cut a long story short and focus on the 2023-24 seasons, he was quite good and received love from the Cowboys fans. In the last two years, Jourdan Lewis has played 31 total games and has had 118 total tackles out of which 60.16% tackles were solo. And throughout the last two seasons, Lewis has assisted 47 times. Quite impressive for a free agent, right?

But now, the 29-year-old is struggling with hitting back-to-back free agency. Though he wants to play as he has already said, Jourdan Lewis’ re-signing stills hangs in the balance.
