Davante Adams has been causing quite the stir the last week or so since it came out that he’s seeking a transfer from the Las Vegas Raiders. With his hamstring injury having caused him to miss two games in a row, teams had been hesitant to bite. But now, with news of his apparent recovery, a more clear timeline for the transfer has emerged.

It seems we can expect to hear more about Adams’ transfer in the next 24-48 hours. It is unclear where he will be transferring to, but there’s three big candidates. The New York Jets, the New Orleans Saints, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have all expressed interest. The Jets seem like his obvious choice, with old teammate Aaron Rodgers there.

There is also the matter of who’s going to be paying the man. His 5-year $140,000,000 contract, signed in 2022, was the highest ever for a wide receiver at the time. He’s still owed about $13.5 million this season, and the Raiders will not want to be on the hook for that. So any team that takes him on might want to restructure that contract. It all comes down to what his agent can wrangle out of them, we suppose.

Davante Adams has clearly been enjoying the media circus that’s accompanied the announcement that he’s seeking transfer. He went so far as taunting fans a couple days ago on social media. The picture of Edgar Allan Poe on his story had fans speculating a potential Baltimore Ravens transfer. The famous poet and Author Poe had spent a lot of time in Baltimore, and their team is named after his most well-known poem, “The Raven.” Sadly, nothing came of it, and it seems like Adams is very much interested in the Jets.

What makes the Rodgers-Adams partnership so alluring?

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams spent 8 years together at the Green Bay Packers, from 2014 to 21. They were a dream pairing, almost of one mind on the field, and great friends off-field too. In their final year together, Rodgers called Adams his “Most dominant teammate” after they broke the record for most touchdown passes between a pair of players. Across 108 games with Rodgers, Adams scored 69 touchdowns and made 622 receptions for 7,590 yards.

Most notably, 2022, the very year Adams’ transferred to the Las Vegas Raiders, saw a massive dip in Rodgers’ form. 2023, of course, saw Rodgers drop out of the season on his opening game with the New York Jets with an injury. And though he’s had a couple flashes of brilliance on the field this year, failures have been just as frequent. Can a reunion with Adams bring back that Rodgers’ spark? We’ll just have to see.
