Russell Wilson’s luck isn’t favoring him this regular season. The potential number 1 quarterback choice for the Pittsburgh Steelers is having to sit and watch the games from the sidelines. Meanwhile, Justin Fields has been shining through.

Christopher Carter reported recently on X that there is a slight complication regarding the active roster status in Pittsburgh. He even stated Mike Tomlin’s thoughts regarding how he would like to approach it.

Teams usually declare beforehand about who the opening QB would be during the coming match. Since Russell Wilson seems to be getting better, the head coach hasn’t made the big decision yet. He said, “I explained to you the variables of the week. That has not changed.” Tomlin also added, “Sometimes in this business there’s a myriad of complex decisions to be made. I make them when it’s appropriate. When we have a decision to make, I’ll make it and I’ll be transparent.

He doesn’t want to name the QB1 so early into the week because there’s simply “no need” for it. Well, Justin Fields has carried the Steelers‘ game strongly for three weeks, so he does seem to have that advantage. However, Wilson is a star that Mike Tomlin wouldn’t want to skip.

There is also a running rumor that Russell Wilson is being discussed for a trade with the Dolphins. While there is no official confirmation regarding the rumor, maybe this is why Tomlin is waiting on the QB1 decision.

It is indeed a complicated decision that we would have to wait for. Meanwhile, we can appreciate the team spirit that Wilson has been showing from the sidelines.

Russell Wilson thinks highly of Justin Fields

After the season opener, Steelers were supposed to face Denver Broncos in the second week. This time around, they settled the game with a humble score and won by 13-6. Justin Fields undoubtedly did a good job on the field and Wilson seemed happy seeing QB1 on the gridiron.

He took to Instagram and uploaded a story with the quarterback’s picture. He also wrote a one-word message, showing his enthusiasm for the victory that he couldn’t bring.

As of now, Wilson is rehabilitating his calf tightness. As per the Steelers injury report, Wilson attended practice with limited training during the entirety of the third week. So, we may see some progress before their game against the Colts this Sunday.

Mike Tomlin’s confusion is understandable. However, what he is cooking up in his mind is still a mystery.
