You’d probably agree that the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the toughest teams in the league. And let’s be honest, Patrick Mahomes has already shown he can handle pressure like a pro. But if Super Bowl LIX taught us anything, it’s that even the best need backup. Mahomes was sacked six times in that game, his highest ever since joining the NFL. Philly’s intense 38% pressure rate, most of it coming from just their front four, impacted heavily on the QB. But the worst part is, that game might’ve given other teams a blueprint on how to rattle the Chiefs. However, don’t count on it working again. Because Andy Reid‘s not sitting still, he’s already got a plan.

The Chiefs didn’t waste time filling that final offseason 90-man roster spot. On Friday, they brought in a Super Bowl champion to the team. According to reporter Charles Goldman on X, “The #Chiefs have signed former Rams OG Tremayne Anchrum,” on a one-year deal to save Patrick Mahomes from attacks.

Tremayne Anchrum Jr. has been around in the league since 2020, after being drafted by the Rams. In his NFL career, he spent time with the Seahawks, Saints, and most recently on the Texans’ practice squad. Although his name isn’t that flashy, he’s a fighter.

Since being drafted, he has played in 31 games with just one start. He is mostly seen as a backup on the offensive line, who has played snaps either at right guard or right tackle. At 6’2″, 314 pounds, he brings grit, experience, and championship blood to Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s team. And yes, how can we forget that the man also boasts two national titles with Clemson, besides a Super Bowl ring from his Rams days?

So, in Andy Reid’s Chiefs, he might not step in as a starter, but come OTAs and training camp, he’ll bring the heat at guard or even center. And that’s exactly what Patrick Mahomes’ KC needs – depth, hunger, and someone who’s been tested. But while the team was excited to welcome this new face to the red club, Friday also brought two tough blows.

Bad news for Patrick Mahomes and the team!

Andy Reid and the Chiefs had to make some tough calls Thursday, trimming down their roster and letting go of two players. Running back Keaontay Ingram, who joined the squad last season, was waived with an injury tag. Whereas wide receiver Justin Lockhart, who was already on injured reserve, was also cut loose.

On one hand, Lockhart’s journey with the Chiefs ended before it even got going. After signing earlier this month as an undrafted rookie, he landed on injured reserve. But on Thursday, the team waived him with an injury settlement, giving him a shot to return in 2025. Per stats, Lockhart had a solid college run at San Jose State with 53 catches, 983 yards, and five touchdowns. He clearly has the talent. So, now, it’s just about healing up and staying ready.

On the other hand, Ingram had a bit of history. He was once a promising name from Arizona, picked in the sixth round. However, he later signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad when their backfield needed help. Chiefs GM Brett Veach even had high hopes for him, calling him out as someone they believed in. But despite those words and a brief promotion this year, Ingram just couldn’t stand out enough. He only played five snaps on special teams and never really found his rhythm. Now at 25, he’s back on the hunt, hoping another team gives him a chance before training camp rolls around.
