A guy as proud of his roots as Mark Sanchez? Hard to come by. Remember when he said, “They’re [Family] going to be there for me no matter what”? That wasn’t just lip service. Sanchez played 10 seasons in the league before switching things up as an announcer. Talk about a guy who proves the saying true: You can take a man out of football, but you can never take football out of the man.

Through this career shift, one thing also changed for Mark. Enter Perry Mattfeld. Since tying the knot, Mark’s squad isn’t just his family or the Latino community cheering him on—it’s Perry, too. Sure, they have had their ups and downs like most couples do. But they are going strong.

When did Mark Sanchez get married?

Spoiler alert: Yes, Mark Sanchez and Perry Mattfeld are still very much together. Simple answer, right? But before we dive into their recent adorable appearances, let’s rewind a bit and talk about when they officially tied the knot.

Mark and Perry said “I do” on May 28, 2023, in Oaxaca, Mexico, inside a stunning 16th-century colonial monastery. Special moments, indeed, require special destinations. And when 220 guests are witnessing it? Yeah, we can call it grand! To make it more special, Sanchez’s son Daniel stood by his side as both a groomsman and ring bearer.

Oh, and tears? Yeah, they flowed. And for the both of them. It was obvious, but worth mentioning still. Mark, who’s now doing his thing as a Fox Sports broadcaster, couldn’t keep the tears in check as his mom walked him down the aisle. The soundtrack? None other than “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” by Elton John.

And Perry? One would think that she might have gone with a Katy Perry song, you know, to be quirky and for the matching names’ sakes. But nope, she made a queen-like entrance in a custom Karen Sabag gown to the sound of Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up.” Talk about a moment, right?

Fast forward to June ’24, and yep, Mark’s still proudly calling Perry his wife. The love is strong, and it all started with a proposal straight out of a movie.

Surely, this love story didn’t just start at the altar. So, you’ve got to wonder: when did they meet to have forged such a strong bond?

How did Perry meet Mark?

Well, it wasn’t some random swipe on an app, that’s for sure. Their love story kicked off thanks to their mutual friend, Scotty McKnight, who introduced them in 2017. Their first date? Au Cheval in Chicago. At the time, Mark Sanchez was playing for the Bears, and Perry Mattfeld was filming Shameless. Ahh! The common friend, playing love guru.

From the jump, they hit it off. Turns out, they had way more in common than they expected. Both went to USC, both are Hispanic—till here it was digestible. But then, hold on, both grew up in Long Beach and get this—they were even born in the same hospital! Nah, that’s way more than just stars aligning. “We laughed the whole night,” Perry admitted. Sounds like a match made in football and Hollywood heaven.

Fast forward to 2022, and Mark popped the big question at the Belmond Cap Juluca resort in Anguilla. After four months apart, Perry was in for the surprise of her life. And she got exactly that. She admitted, “I was shocked!” Why? Mark’s lover boy came out as he thought of every detail—an intimate dinner menu, a private concert, his beau’s favorite wine.

If that wasn’t enough, he even had Perry’s parents come down to bless them. I mean, if this is not love then what is? The night ended with fireworks, literally and figuratively. Yep, Mark really went all out.

Oh, and who officiated their wedding in 2023? None other than Scotty McKnight himself. That’s life looping around in a full circle. And we are all in for it! It’s beautiful to hear such out-of-ordinary love tales, straight outta the film reel. Now, we can say, Mark Sanchez has hit the TD of life.
