Week 7 was not too pleasant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs went head-to-head against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field and suffered a huge 24-9 defeat to the Lions’ defense, limiting the Baker Mayfield-led offense to just 9 points. The controversial officiating aside, Mayfield also owned up to the fact that his offensive team was not up to the mark on Monday night.

“We still want to be a little bit more balanced,” Mayfield said to the media after Wednesday’s practice. “And that’s just, receivers are going to be tired. All lines are going to be tired. And just with that defensive front, you never want to have to drop back 50 times. It’s not really fair for anybody.”
After the one-sided defeat, the Bucs’ signal caller also credited the Detroit Lions for a complete game. Mayfield gave a shout-out to the Lions’ linebacker Derrick Barnes while admitting he did not bring his A-game.

Undoubtedly, Dan Campbell’s defense stole the night at Ford Field. Known for their offense, it was time for the Lions to display their defense, which allowed just 251 yards of total offense, defended 12 passes, and totaled 40 QB pressures. Both defensive ends, Aidan Hutchinson (12) and Al-Quadin Muhammad (9), had a phenomenal night.

The game also had its fair share of controversies. The Bucs seemed to be unhappy with a plethora of the referees’ decisions. At one point in the fourth quarter, Baker Mayfield lost his cool and began to argue with one of the referees.
During the fourth quarter, the Bucs decided to throw the ball on their fourth down. Cade Otton caught the ball but was tackled, and he fumbled the ball. But the ball was quickly recovered by offensive guard Ben Bredeson. The Lions challenged the play, but the decision was first given in favor of the Bucs. Moments later, John Hussey was asked to take a second look, and then it was overturned.

Later at the post-game press conference, Mayfield opened up about confronting the referees, stating that there were several calls that he believed were unfair. This included a flag for a defensive holding that was not called when the Bucs were on their third down. The 30-year-old QB was also confused about the double review.

“A lot of things in that game that were a little questionable … I work my a** off, and I put a lot into this game, so when [calls are made] that I don’t think are deemed fair, I’m going to let somebody know,” Mayfield said after the game.
The Bucs currently have a 5-2 lead in the NFC South. In Week 8, they will be heading to New Orleans to face the Saints. Currently, the Saints are at the bottom of the table with six losses and only one win. With both the Bucs and the Saints losing their previous games, who do you think will come out on top?
