Baker Mayfield had a happy 2023, on-field as well as off-field. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback led his team into the playoffs and finished the last season with 4044 yards, 364 completions, and ten touchdowns. Off the football field, Mayfield had another big news.

The quarterback announced that his wife, Emily Wilkinson, was expecting their first baby. Having been together for seven years, the couple is as strong as ever. While Mayfield is widely loved for his play in Tampa Bay, Wilkinson is the star of her own field. With over 220,000 followers on Instagram, Wilkinson is a social media influencer and model and has been a constant support for Mayfield in his career.

Emily Wilkinson was initially unsure about Baker Mayfield

They might be a power couple now, but initially, Mayfield had to pursue Emily quite a bit! The couple met through a mutual friend, as per ESPN. Wilkinson wasn’t fully convinced about the quarterback in the early days and was unsure about the “punk football player.” But Mayfield persisted in his attempts to woo Wilkinson and kept pursuing her through social media. His efforts finally bore fruit when Mayfield agreed to a date before his college game. While the influencer expected to have a conversation about football with the “typical playboy athlete,” she considered him at the time, on the date, she was pleasantly surprised.

Mayfield wanted to know Wilkinson better, and the date worked out to be the catalyst in what would be a whirlwind romance. In just six months after their first date, the couple was engaged and got married in 2019. Wilkinson fell in love with the “softy” and “mama’s boy” Mayfield, and now the couple is expecting their first kid together.

Wilkinson had Mayfield’s back through all the hate

After Mayfield was the first pick in the NFL 2018 Draft by the Cleaveland Browns, Wilkinson decided to move to Cleaveland with the quarterback, as per TMZ. Initially working at a plastic surgery clinic as a patient coordinator, Wilkinson quit her job and joined her boyfriend in his journey in the NFL. She told the website, “I’m excited to say I’m only leaving Galanis Plastic Surgery because I’ll be starting a new adventure with this guy in Cleveland.”

Since then, Wilkinson has constantly supported Mayfield in his career through her Instagram, cheering him in his wins and defending him in his losses. When the quarterback was getting a barrage of hate after Cleaveland’s loss in 2021 to the LA Chargers, Wilkinson was quick to defend her husband. She posted a story which read:

“You truly don’t know what you have. I have watched him give his all and change the entire culture in CLE, yet he gets so little credit for it. He never asks for recognition and continues to carry the weight day in and day out despite the hate. If you’re a true fan, SUPPORT our guys. Baker, and everyone else. The hate does NOTHING for them.”

Baker Mayfield and Wilkinson have been together since 2017 and despite numerous hurdles thrown their way, have stuck to each other’s sides. The 2024 season seems promising for Mayfield. The quarterback is expected to be retained by the Buccaneers and will welcome his first child with his wife Wilkinson.
