The Chicago Bears qualified for the postseason playoff games for the first time since 2020 last year. Caleb Williams led the offense to an 11-6 record, winning the wildcard game against the Green Bay Packers 31-27 before losing the Super Bowl race in the divisional playoffs against the Los Angeles Rams. But according to former NFL scout Daniel Kelly, the 24-year-old QB may not have gained the confidence of Bears HC Ben Johnson for a long-term future.

“Don’t be surprised when Bears head coach Ben Johnson gets rid of Caleb Williams,” wrote Kelly on X. “He’s been dropping hints over the past two off-seasons that he wants more out of the quarterback position than Williams has been able to produce.”

The former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly’s assessment of the Bears and Ben Johnson parting ways with Caleb isn’t random. It is based on the inefficiency in Caleb’s output during the 2025 season. For starters, his completion percentage dropped to a low 58.1% last season, below the league average and the 60% threshold generally expected of an efficient NFL offense.

While it paints a negative picture of the team overall, the low percentage is a combination of Williams’ missing throws and wide receiver drops. Along with that, the 24-year-old QB had an average throw time of 3.24 seconds, ranking among the slowest processing times in the entire league. Meanwhile, Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers recorded one of the fastest average times to throw last season at 2.52 seconds.

“We need to get the completion percentage up,” said Bear Johnson. “And so we’ll look at that as we go through the cut-ups of where we can best do that. There were probably 80 or 90 throws on tape that we felt like could have been completions.”

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that Kelly has gone after Caleb Williams. Even during the 2025 regular season, Kelly reported that “there’s a strong chance the Bears trade Caleb Williams this off-season.”

However, the quarterback is all set to enter his third NFL season with the Chicago Bears, and his second year playing under Ben Johnson.

In his two seasons with the Bears, Williams has recorded  7,483 passing yards and thrown 47 touchdowns over 34 games. While there may be some uncertainty about his future in Chicago, nothing has been confirmed as of now. Only time will tell if former NFL scout Daniel Kelly’s assessment of Williams proves to be accurate.
