Russell Wilson has been staying unusually composed amid all the adversity he is facing right now. In October, the Denver Broncos asked him to defer the injury guarantee dates and threatened to bench him if he failed to do so. In between all the concerns, though, the QB maintained a calm demeanor, continuing to focus on his game. Now, despite Russ having a respectable season as a QB with over 3,000 yards, his worst nightmares came true and he chose to break the silence about the dubious “off-set” details of his contract.

After everything was said and done, Wilson was benched despite amassing 3,070 yards and 27 TDs. A lot of times, he came in clutch when the Broncos needed him the most and whipped up last-minute wins on different occasions. However, he still ended up getting benched because the management had more expectations from him. For now, he has let his faith take over him and urges his fans to just “keep going.”

In the wake of these problems, Wilson chose to keep a positive outcome about the situation. By the looks of it, he is trying to not let these hardships bother him. Per his latest tweet, he has made “gratitude and joy” the mantras of his life. The post addressed the need to look at the positives in life while believing in God and maintaining faith in him.

His tweet on X said, “Make Gratitude & Joy a life commitment even in the midst of adversity. With Gratitude & Joy, you always will remember how far God has brought you and how far HE is about to take you. Keep going. Keep Believing.”

Despite his positive outlook towards life and career, there are a lot of things that the QB needs to think about because the Broncos might just not be ready to give him up yet. For now, there are two scenarios for Wilson. Whether the Broncos keep him benched and keep paying him, or they let him go to his third team.

However, the NFL reporter Ian Rapoport wrote that Wilson’s contract has some “off-set” language that only works in the favor of the Broncos.

What led to this point in Russell Wilson’s career?

Sure, there were some problems in his contract of the QB due to “off-set” clauses, but per Wilson, he had given the Broncos his all. However, other things led him to a crossroads with the Broncos. Following the losses against the Detroit Lions, and the December 25th loss to the New England Patriots, there has been a lot of scrutiny towards Wilson. Upon revisiting the scenes, the other Broncos members found out some underlying issues with the QB.

Firstly, the Broncos crew realized that the QB had a problem finding players, despite them being open. Rapoport reports it as “finding the open guy in rhythm was an issue”. After watching the film and discussing it within themselves, the Broncos decided to give Jarrett Stidham a go.

Secondly, Payton had been eyeing Wilson for a while now. Per Rapoport, Payton doesn’t see “efficiency” in Wilson’s offense regularly. And to top it all off, Wilson’s career has a no-trade clause and even if the Broncos and their QB come to a resolution, trading him would be as expensive as keeping him. So, for now, it looks like the Broncos will keep Wilson on the roster, benched!

One take at a time

Basketball has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Kobe Bryant sometime in 2008 and being blown away. Like every kid my age, I was utterly taken aback by his moves and abilities as an athlete.
