While the Cincinnati Bengals celebrated their 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Joe Burrow left Paycor Stadium on crutches, wearing a protective boot on his injured left foot. And, as many feared, reports suggest the quarterback has suffered a similar setback to Brock Purdy, an injury that could sideline him for weeks.

NFL insider Ian Rappoport reported, “#Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who was ruled out Sunday with a toe injury, was diagnosed with turf toe, source confirms (as @FOX19Jeremy reported).” Burrow’s return depends on how serious the turf toe injury is.
It can take weeks to heal, and in some cases, surgery is needed. Adam Schefter reported that his scans are being sent to foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, who may give a clearer update soon. If surgery is required, Burrow could be out for up to three months, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Burrow got hurt in the second quarter after a sack by Jaguars’ DE Arik Armstead. He was in visible pain and needed help walking to the injury tent, then to the locker room. The official announcement that he was ruled out came in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the timeline for Brock Purdy’s return remains uncertain, though 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t ruled out a Week 3 comeback. The 25-year-old quarterback is dealing with turf toe and a shoulder injury, with a recovery window of two to five weeks.
In Burrow’s case, his status is also unclear. While this season was meant to be his first fully healthy one, he previously tore his ACL in his 2020 rookie year and missed the second half of 2023 with a wrist injury. Now, another setback has raised fresh concerns.
Before his departure, Burrow completed seven of his 13 pass attempts for 76 yards and a TD pass to Ja’Marr Chase. The gap was filled by Jake Browning, who went 21-of-32 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. The 29-year-old also delivered the winning touchdown. Even back in 2023, he took over the starting QB job after Burrow went down with an injury.
Now, after the insiders’ take on the player’s injury, the coach has had a new update.

Zac Taylor talks about Joe Burrow’s injury
The sight of Burrow walking out with crutches has raised tension across the team and its fans. When asked about the injury, the coach admitted he didn’t yet know how serious it was and expected more details to come the following day. “Nothing right now, to be truthful with you. We had such a tight game that I didn’t get all the information yet,” he told the reporters.
Although the Bengals are 2-0 for the first time under Taylor, what should have been the perfect celebration quickly turned bitter after Burrow’s injury. His teammates are also visibly upset, knowing that his absence could cause serious trouble for the team moving forward.
Offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. felt “sick” as the stadium went quiet after Burrow’s injury. “Anytime he has to miss time, miss games or snaps, it’s never a good feeling,” Brown Jr. shared. Ted Karras also chimed in, “Trying to change the narrative around here about our unit, best player in the world goes down in the second quarter … casts a pall over the whole day, really,” Karras said.

Speaking of the game, Karras even explained that the offense wasn’t good in the first half when the QB was sacked twice.
That performance now looks even more concerning, given Burrow’s turf toe issue. If the injury is serious, it’s unlikely he’ll return for the next game. However, we’ll have to wait for the official report to know more.
