The Dallas Cowboys are utilizing their tactics to keep the players “all-in” but with twists. After Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation is under looming clouds. Like many analysts, Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson expressed their views on the $8.5 billion net worth of Jerry Jones’ tactics of late payments to the star players.

Lamb just had his best season yet in the NFL. He’s been with the team for four years, and in each season, he’s performed better, setting new records in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. However, there seems to be a problem now. According to a report by the Dallas Morning News, Lamb might wait until he gets a new contract extension before joining the team’s OTAs. This move didn’t sit well with Sharpe and Johnson.

In the latest episode of the Nightcap, Sharpe and Johnson reacted to the Cowboys’ tactics of putting the players on hold, with the latest being CeeDee Lamb. Sharpe mentioned, “Remember Jerry said he was going with all and what he meant by all, it was all in all the guys”. The former NFL players highlighted the chemistry between Dak Prescott and Lamb emphasizing its importance to the offense. They discussed how it’s crucial for the Cowboys to work with numbers and do right by Lamb.

However, they expressed confusion about why players like Lamb have to wait so long to get paid, especially when they perform well. The hosts brought up examples of other players, like Trevon Diggs, who negotiated deals and got paid, and suggested that Lamb should be treated similarly. They speculated that the Cowboys and Jerry Jones might intentionally delay contract negotiations until the last minute, even though it’s not just a Cowboys issue but a trend among many teams.

Johnson mentioned, “You know what they’re gonna do it. They’re gonna do it. They’re gonna pay but it will be in the last minute. Probably right before training camp, get ready to start….I don’t know why they do it, and they do it consistently. Not just not just cowboys. Every good receiver has to wait. They have to wait. I don’t know why they do it.

So, waiting for the last minute has definitely become a trend of the Cowboys this offseason, as now Lamb too might look for an extension.

CeeDee Lamb is nearing the end of his rookie contract. He’s rumored to be seeking an extension before the 2024 NFL season kicks off. Many top players choose to wait and play out their final season rather than accept less guaranteed money and fewer contract years. The Cowboys want to keep Lamb long-term, but their salary cap situation makes it tricky. This year, they also have Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and Zack Martin seeking extensions.

Dallas reporter, Michael Gehlken, suggested that Lamb may hold out until he gets the biggest deal ever for a player in his position. Tyreek Hill currently holds the record, earning $120 million over four years with the Dolphins. If Lamb aims to surpass Hill’s contract, the Cowboys might need to offer him at least $140 million over four years to keep him on the team.
