You know how dangerous Patrick Mahomes can be…if you get the chance to grab or stop him, you take it. But the Bills‘ defensive end Joey Bosa looked like he was strolling through a garden on that 4th and 17 in the fourth quarter, missing a golden opportunity to sack Mahomes. Mahomes was wide open as Bosa suddenly stopped. But despite leaving the fans stunned, the former Chargers DE has been a key pass rusher, constantly disrupting quarterbacks’ timing.

Bosa’s impact can’t be ignored. He has always managed to bother the quarterbacks with forced quick throws, and this is what Buffalo brought him to do. In his first season with the Bills, Bosa delivered the kind of performance the team had hoped for. He has stacked up four forced fumbles and stands tall in this ranking. Also, in 8 games this season, he racked up 19 total tackles. Despite all the speculations about the “hesitation” in sacking Mahomes, he delivered a staggering performance in restricting the Chiefs‘ quarterback.

He recorded one of the Mahomes’ three sacks and generated 10 pressures, adding a major contribution to the Bills’ 28-21 victory. “Just proud of everybody, the way we rushed,” Bosa said at his locker after the win, adding that he feels “reinvigorated” in his first season with his new team.

The Bills brought the heat all game, pressuring Mahomes on 52.6% of his dropbacks. This is a massive 14.3% jump from any of their previous nine meetings, according to the NFL Next Gen Stats. With that win, the Bills have extended their regular-season streak over the Chiefs to five games.

Still, while some believe Bosa’s hesitation came from trying to avoid a penalty or adjust his positioning, others aren’t holding back…calling him out for letting a prime opportunity slip away.

Social media is buzzing with Joey Bosa’s hesitation

When Joey Bosa appeared to stall as he pursued Patrick Mahomes, fans rushed to social media to deconstruct the action, asking why a player with such aggressiveness in pressuring the opposing QB did not succeed in getting the ball. These reactions point to the combination of humour, disbelief, and critique that fans apply to critical game moments.

The fans made fun of the fact that Bosa moved like he was performing a scene in a movie and was not playing football in real life.

“He remembered his stage placement in that part of the script,” a fan noted.

The pause was considered by many to be unnatural and artificial, and this left them questioning when he decided. Some fans even tried to drag the situation and had the same dilemma.

One comment said, “I have the same question. He could easily have gotten to Mahomes.”

Some just accepted the bewilderment and said that Bosa was in a position to touch Mahomes, and it did not make any sense to stop. Others attempted to explain that Bosa could have been thinking Mahomes was stepping out of the pocket.

“He thinks Mahomes is rolling out, maybe? Still doesn’t make sense to stop pursuing him,” a fan commented.

Nevertheless, they did not know the reason why he did not go ahead to make a play. While many are stuck in figuring out the reason, other fans did not even agree that Bosa read the play wrongly as a screen pass.

“Ppl saying he thought it was Screen bro the back literally ran to the right and there wasn’t any receivers this shit so staged man lol,” a comment read.

This indicated that the running back had run away, and no one was within the field to receive the ball, hence they were left perplexed with the stop. Another fan reiterated the shock and expressed the frustrations that most of the audience experienced.

One simply said, “Exactly what I thought!”

To them, the indecisiveness was not logical and made them doubt the decision-making at the crucial time. All these responses demonstrate the power of a single play to create a combination of laughing, shock, and critical thinking, where fans were able to analyze every aspect of the split-second decision by Bosa.
