The Buffalo Bills sit 4-1 after 5 weeks of the 2025 NFL season. Their quarterback, Josh Allen, has been leading the offense from the front. But in the game against the New England Patriots, his receiver Keon Coleman sat out the first 6 plays. At first, it looked normal. But then the head coach Sean McDermott revealed it was a punishment for the 33rd pick (2nd round) of the 2024 Draft.

“I trust zero,” Allen said while talking to reporters about the WR. “I think he understands and knows that at the end of the day, this locker room, this team doesn’t ever want to let their teammates down.” The signal caller still wants to keep his receiver in good spirits.
As things stand, Coleman has been the third-best in receiving yards (226) as far as the Bills are concerned. But there’s more to it. After a magnificent season opener with 8 receptions for 112 yards and 1 TD, the games that followed saw a major dip in numbers. He finished the next 3 games with just 9 receptions and 91 yards and no score.

Even in their Week 5 loss against the Patriots, which left Allen fuming, Coleman only caught the ball 4 times for 23 yards, and his one fumble led to a Patriots field goal. In fact, WR Khalil Shakir, too, had a sub-50-yard game, while tight end Dalton Kincaid was the pick of the receivers with 108 yards.

After 5 games, the Bills receiver corps is ranked 11th in the league in receiving yards (1249), and 17th in the league in number of receptions (108). While that’s not disastrous, that’s not a good look for Super Bowl contenders either.
The good thing is, Keon Coleman seems to have the right mindset.
Josh Allen’s WR admits his mistake
McDermott explained his side of things the next day after their first loss. “Well, we expect more, and he has shown growth this year,” he said. “He has. We’re looking for more consistency.”
However, the Florida State alumnus showed maturity while talking to reporters. Giving a sense that he was not fazed by the punishment. “I wouldn’t call it a setback,” Coleman said. “It was just a growing pain in a sense. So yeah, it is frustrating because you know you’re better than that as a person and individual. You don’t like the things that it shows. Sometimes, it might show that you don’t care, and that’s not the case, so you want to eliminate those things,” he said.
Coleman will have his shot at proving himself against two NFC South teams, the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, who haven’t been the most consistent customers at 2-2 and 2-3, respectively. After that, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. They have their own woes, having dropped below .500, but you can bet on them to really take things up a notch as the season moves to its second half.
In the meantime, check out why QB Drake Maye has been a revelation.
