After winning two back-to-back games, the Buffalo Bills were back on track, but then they lost their winning streak at the hands of the Miami Dolphins, 30-13, in the week 10 matchup. The Bills were dominated by the Dolphins throughout the game, and now, the Bills’ head coach has pointed out what they lacked in the loss.

According to Bills Digest’s editor Alex Brasky, Bills head coach Sean McDermott has made it clear why the Bills’ passing game failed in moving the ball.  McDermott said, “I felt like there were some times where we weren’t open”, as reported by Brasky.

The loss to the Dolphins has now put the Bills behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East. What could have been an easy win against the struggling Dolphins turned out to be an offensive flaw revealer for the Bills, bringing quarterback Josh Allen into the spotlight.

Allen was also sacked four times, completing 15 of 26 passes for 180 yards, and he had two touchdowns. Both of these touchdowns came during the opening drive of the two halves. He was also pressured on 47.1% of his dropbacks. It was nothing close to an MVP-caliber performance.

The Bills’ offense struggled throughout the game. The receivers were seen struggling to get open on routes. Since the receivers are not getting open on a regular basis in the game, Allen is simply forcing plays. During the game, Allen forced a throw in the end zone when nothing was open, and it ended up as an interception.

He also had a fumble on a QB keeper on third-and-short, which was Allen’s desperation to get an extra few yards instead of going down. A similar incident occurred on a third-and-16 when Allen was seen scrambling all over the field to give his receivers a chance to open up. It later ended up being a 21-yard interception, which made the Bills’ issue with the offense much clearer.

It clearly shows that Buffalo receivers are performing below average, which is why they are currently ranked among the bottom three in the NFL. The last game might have highlighted the issue, but this has been the case with the Bills for quite some time; otherwise, a single bad game wouldn’t have put them in the bottom three positions.

However, the losing game wasn’t just about the gaps in the offensive unit; it also set some new records for the team that they will never be proud of.

The last game set unwanted records for the Bills

During the last game, the Bills were down 16–0 at halftime, and that’s their biggest halftime deficit since week 4 of the last season when the Bills were trailing by 21-3 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Additionally, the Bills not scoring any points in the first half is the first time since 2023 that the New York Giants have not scored any points in a Week 3 matchup.

However, placing all the blame on Josh Allen and the receivers would not be entirely accurate, as the Bills also suffered their fair share of injuries before the game. However, this doesn’t mean that the halftime adjustments for Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, and their team should be overlooked.

Bill’s spectacular victory of the Kansas City Chiefs put the doubters in a silent mode, but after the blunders against the Dolphins, especially in the offensive department, the critics will be back in full form.
