Despite the Buffalo Bills‘ strong record, their quiet trade deadline has left many wondering if the front office is doing enough. Everyone thought the head coach, Sean McDermott, and his staff would use the trade window to sign players or trade some of them away, particularly after they were dealing with an injured locker room.

Speaking with the reporters on November 5 after the first day of week 10 practice, McDermott made it clear that it’s frustrating to see the underlying issues with the team, and that they didn’t do anything to solve that. However, he also mentioned that he stands with his management, particularly GM Brandon Beane.

“I believe in Brandon. I believe in his staff,” he first said. “I love our team. I believe we can win, and the reason is we’ve got guys who are buying into playing as a team, playing for one another…Do we have some holes due to some injuries? We do. And it’s frustrating. But that’s also where young guys have to step up.”

Currently, the Bills’ injury report mentions cornerback Christian Benford (groin), Defensive end Joey Bosa (wrist), and running back James Cook (ankle). While the CB had limited practice on Wednesday, the other two stayed away. Cook’s injury will hurt them more as he is their leading running back with 153 carries for 867 yards and 7 TDs. That will definitely put pressure on the young players. Sean McDermott and his coaches are working hard to counter it.

Yet, the biggest setback came in the week 5 game against the New England Patriots when they lost by just 3 points. Quarterback Josh Allen couldn’t take them to victory even after his dual-threat performance. He led them in both receiving yards and rushing yards, but couldn’t score. That proved that the Bills had a weaker wide receiver room and the defensive line.

They had a chance by the trade deadline on November 4. But they landed no one. When asked, Brandon Beane himself feels that the present roster is fine to win any championship.

“I do believe we can win a championship with this roster,” Beane said. “We build it in the spring and through the summer, when we cut to 53, I want to at that point have the best team. I don’t really want to need the trade deadline, but I’m always going to look.”

Anyway, now it’s time to let bygones be bygones and move ahead. The QB is already looking into the future.

Sean McDermott’s QB Josh Allen wants his teammates to focus

Mr. January has led the team as he does. A 13-4 TD-INT. ratio, 70.4% completion rate, 1,833 receiving yards in the passing game. He also leads the team in rushing scores (7, shared with Cook) with 55 carries for 280 yards. While he hoped that they would add someone, he isn’t disappointed with their decision to stay put.

“I’m just kind of locked in what’s going on here,” Josh Allen first said, but he then praised the management. “I trust Beane…I trust the players on this roster. We’re going to continue to keep getting better each and every week, and that’s our focus.”

He then cited the perfect example. During the week 9 victory against the Chiefs, 10 players had a reception. But yes, TE Dalton Kincaid was the top receiver with 6 receptions for 101 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. That’s why Allen needed a receiver. When asked about his WR group, he shared extreme confidence.

“I got so much confidence. I think there’s so many different things that we can continue to evolve in our offense with our guys,” the Bills QB replied.

Overall, the Bills stand at a 6-2 record after 9 weeks and are placed second in the AFC East. They are in the wild-card position for the playoff contention. But the question remains the same. It’s all about playing at a 100% level. Sean McDermott’s team is in 2nd place in the NFL with 16 rushing scores. He needs to find WRs who can keep the same level in their receiving game.

On the other hand, Beane, as mentioned above, reiterated that they have a roster that can win championships. But the question is when? They haven’t won yet.
