“Lucky to Have Him”: Andy Reid Compares “Phenomenal” Patrick Mahomes to 3x NFL MVP as Chiefs Prepare for Buffalo Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs will play an away game against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. So, how is the “preparation” of the quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, going? Andy Reid revealed the answer by comparing him to the 54-year-old former NFL quarterback.
After meeting each other in Week 14, the duo, Mahomes and Josh Allen will again face off in a chilling game on Sunday, January 21. The exciting thriller is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET at Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park. But before the game, Reid explained Mahomes’ approach toward preparation, praising the quarterback’s strengths.

In a pregame press conference with the Chiefs, coach Andy Reid talked about the preparation for the playoffs, his team, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. During the press conference, Reid was asked about Mahomes’ readiness for the game, his “positive body language,” and the characteristics that make him different from or similar to the other quarterbacks he trained earlier. The 65-year-old said, “I’d tell you all the way round. His preparation is phenomenal. His attitude is phenomenal. His compete is phenomenal, so you love all of that, and we are lucky to have him here… He’s a heck of a football player.“
Reid further praised Mahomes, calling him “well-rounded,” “good person,” and “great for the locker room,” someone who gets respect from everyone. The coach even added that he had trained two quarterbacks with those “phenomenal” characteristics in his career: one is Mahomes, and the other one is Brett Favre.

Last year, in a podcast, Brett Favre observed similarities between himself and Patrick Mahomes as football players. According to him, they share traits like mobility, throwing on the run, a commitment to see plays through, and possessing a strong arm.
The Hall of Fame quarterback acknowledged the comparison and noted Mahomes’ confidence in making any throw from various angles. Mahomes, like Favre, maintains a vision down the field, always seeking the big play first. He said, “I was always looking for the big play first and knew I could always react underneath if I needed to. You have to have a certain confidence or air about you that you can make any throw.“

According to Favre, this confidence is essential, and Mahomes has proven that he can make any throw.
