This game was supposed to be the playoff practice for the high-flying San Francisco 49ers. But they were brought back on the ground by their AFC counterparts, the Baltimore Ravens. And in doing so, they shook the era of invincibility around young QB Brock Purdy.

Brock Purdy’s life in football has been nothing short of a Hollywood movie. His rise from obscurity to the world-beating quarterback was swift. Now, with the horrible loss against the Ravens, Purdy will be in the regret phase for giving so many gifts to the Ravens’ back line.

Brock Purdy is ‘picked’ apart

The 49ers failed to match the intensity and grit of the Ravens squad throughout the game thanks to Lamar Jackson. Purdy is more often than not the focal point of the 49ers’ offensive runs. And the DBs of the Ravens made sure that Purdy couldn’t operate freely as they picked him 4 times. A rare occasion in the Shanahan family.

Kyle Shanahan, the HC for the 49ers, is the son of legendary football coach Mike Shanahan. We must go over this generation and into the previous one to find a QB that was picked 4 times in a game. That dubious honor lies with the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) QB Rex Grossman in 2011.

Now that the 49ers are firmly back to reality, they must understand the level of competition they are about to face in the regular season. But everything is not doom and gloom for either the 49ers or Brock Purdy.

The 49ers have a silver lining

Despite facing off against one of the best teams in the league, this year, the 49ers have plenty to be happy about. Most importantly, their 23-year-old QB, still high up the ladder in the MVP debate, stood tall amongst all the chaos.

This type of humiliating loss will prepare the youngster for bigger challenges in the postseason and can be used as a motivator to lift the Super Bowl Trophy. But the 49ers shouldn’t drop their shoulders and focus on attaining the top seed from the NFC. They still have two games to go before embarking on the postseason journey.

Can Brock Purdy and the 49ers bounce back after this performance? Let us know in the comments.
