Sitting atop the AFC West, the Denver Broncos have the best record in the division. With a 7-2 record, they’re tied for the most wins in the league. Given their hot start, some expected them to make a move before the trade deadline to strengthen an already solid defense. But the team opted not to make any moves.

This move may have left some scratching their chins, but quarterback Bo Nix recently shed light on the reasoning behind this. When asked about the trade, the QB spoke about their head coach, Sean Payton’s faith in the team.

“Obviously, if there’s a need, you want to get it,”  he said during the press conference. “But we feel like we got all the pieces. Sometimes when something like that happens, it shakes things up. We got something good going, and we just want to keep riding this wave and finding ways to win.”

That speaks volumes about the assurance Payton has over the current roster. His response also hints at how he feels about the players and weapons around him. The QB has had a great season. He threw for 1,976 yards, 17 touchdowns, and posted a 58.1 QBR.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the AFC West, the Chiefs added receiver depth, the Chargers bolstered their offensive line, and the Raiders traded for help in the secondary. But so far, it’s the Broncos’ chemistry that’s setting them apart.

For Denver, their QB has been able to stay healthy across the last few games, but adding further depth almost always helps. The Broncos did explore options in wide receivers and tight ends in the past few weeks. But they haven’t made any trades.

Earlier, tight end Marcedes Lewis was added to the practice squad in October. He was also elevated to the active roster. This was to help the QB. The team has recently promoted the player to the active roster. Nix isn’t the only one with this sentiment. Broncos Troy Franklin had a similar response to the QB when asked about the Broncos’ trade decision.

“Sean (Payton has) been telling us all year he loves our team, loves the receiver group, and we don’t really need anything,” he said as per Chris Tomasson. “So he’s kept his word.”

Rather than making an addition, the team is focused on improvements. Coach Payton also had an interesting take when asked about the trade decision.

Sean Payton addressed the lack of action in the trade

“Yeah, (GM) George (Paton) and I each day talked about different things,” coach Payton said. “And that’s just how it turned out.”

Earlier, the Broncos had an interest in bringing in the Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. However, the asking price for the player was too high for any team. The team reportedly sought a first-round pick for the WR.

That was one of the reasons many teams may have backed out. When asked if he was satisfied with the Broncos’ current lineup of wide receivers, the coach’s response wasn’t much different from what his players had already shared.

“Yeah, I saw a lot of that,” Payton said. “We’ve invested in, we like this group and where we’re going.”

With Franklin, Marvin Mims Jr., Pat Bryant, and Courtland Sutton leading the charge, Denver seems confident in what they have. For now, their focus is simple, keep stacking wins and stay in control of the AFC West.
