Denver Broncos star cornerback Patrick Surtain II and his longtime girlfriend, now fiancée, Kevia Higdon, are expecting their first child together, and this personal announcement set off an immediate wave of excitement from teammates’ families and fans alike.

Higdon shared the news on Instagram on October 2, just over two months after she and Surtain got engaged on July 23. She posted a simple caption alongside a photo of an open wicker picnic basket filled with daisies, an embroidered “Baby Surtain” pouch, and three ultrasound photos resting on the grass.
“Baby Surtain coming soon 🤍🍼” Higdon captioned the post.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s wife, Izzy Nix, was among the first to respond in the comments, showing her excitement directly to the expecting couple.
“So happy for y’all!!!!!!!!! Going to be the most amazing parents 😭🤍🥹🥹🥹” Izzy commented under the post.
Izzy’s reaction carries extra weight given her own connection to the Broncos locker room through her husband, who lines up alongside Surtain as part of Denver’s core. With Nix entering his prime at quarterback and Surtain anchoring the secondary, the two have become the faces of a Broncos team building around both sides of the ball, and their better halves have followed that same bond into the WAG community surrounding the franchise.
Jaylen Waddle kept his reaction short but hilarious, joking that Surtain is officially entering dad mode.
“That boy finna be a papi!!” he wrote, adding another playful response to the flood of congratulations.
Fans flooded the comments, many invoking a running nickname tied to Surtain’s family football legacy. One commenter made the connection explicit:
“Oye He’s definitely about to be super MVP now and PS3 is a future Hall of famer.”
That “PS3” reference isn’t random. Surtain himself is widely known around the league as “PS2,” since he followed directly in the footsteps of his father, Patrick Surtain Sr., an 11-year NFL cornerback who made three Pro Bowls with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. If the baby is a boy, fans joked the family’s football bloodline could extend to a third generation. The Surtain name would continue its legacy from father to son.
Another fan picked up on that same generational theme with a more playful spin.
“The next Surtain corner is baking right now 🧡💙”
Higdon, who met Surtain while both attended the University of Alabama in 2021, received plenty of direct well-wishes as well. One commenter who appeared to know her personally wrote a heartfelt message.
“Keviaaa, love! omgoodness! How exciting, and what a blessing 🫶🏽🥹 Congratulations, beautiful 🤍”
Another fan kept the focus on Higdon’s health through the pregnancy ahead.
“Awhhhh Congrats beautiful!! Prayers for a safe & healthy pregnancy 🙏🏽💕💕”
Surtain has more than earned the hype surrounding his family’s football legacy through his own play alone. The Broncos selected him ninth overall out of Alabama in the 2021 draft, and he’s since become one of the most dominant cornerbacks in the league, capped by winning the 2024 Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award, becoming just the second player in franchise history to earn that honor behind Hall of Famer Randy Gradishar.
That same season, he posted 45 tackles, four interceptions, including a pick-six, and 11 pass defended, numbers that helped him land his third Pro Bowl selection and a second first-team All-Pro nod.
His production hasn’t gone unrewarded financially either. Surtain signed a four-year, $96 million extension that made him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history at the time, cementing his place as the centerpiece of Denver’s defense for years to come.
With that level of production already established before he’s even turned 27 in April next year, it’s easy to see why fans are only joking about a future where a Surtain name is still roaming NFL secondaries a generation from now.
