When Russell Wilson arrived at the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said that he wanted to win games for the team. On the first day of the training camp, he injured his calf. The Blitzburgh later declared that he was fit and would be the starting quarterback. However, he later aggravated his injury and Justin Fields became the starter. That’s the backdrop. Here comes the interesting part.

Fields has led them to 2 wins in the first 2 games. Now, the clouds of doubt shroud the veteran’s return to the team. A fan tweeted out to former Broncos legendary guard Mark Schlereth calling him out for his views towards Wilson. The ex-NFL player threw even more shade on the veteran quarterback in reply, writing, “Wilson is not the answer in Denver, Pittsburgh, or anywhere else.” His views coincide with the views of another Broncos legend.

Former tight end Shannon Sharpe also questioned Wilson’s placement to become the starter QB after recovering from the injury. While reflecting on Fields’ ability for the Steelers, he said, “As long as Justin Fields don’t resort back to the Justin Fields in Chicago, where he’s turning the ball over, he’ll be fine. I don’t see how Russell wrestles the job away from him.” The situation is wavering a bit too much.

Russell Wilson practiced alone before the week 2 game against the Broncos. Fans hoped to watch him in action. However, he was later declared inactive for the game. And Justin Fields took center stage. With 13 of 20 passes in 117 yards and a touchdown, the Steelers cruised to an easy 13-6 win.

After the game, the Black and The Gold honored the veteran QB with their customary tradition.

Mike Tomlin honors Russell Wilson after week 2 win against Broncos

Steelers Head Coach, Mike Tomlin, has a unique post-win tradition. He hands over petty game balls to his players when they beat their former teams. While Russell Wilson didn’t play in yesterday’s game, Tomlin handed him a petty game ball after the game. WR Brandon Johnson and punter Corliss Waitman, who are in the practice squad, also received petty game balls. That wasn’t the only highlight. Justin Fields also trolled his rivals.

The Broncos had a 5-year $242.6 million contract with the veteran quarterback. But early this year, they traded him to the Blitzburgh. He’s signed for 1-year on his minimum fees ($1.2 million). Fields, who handed them the loss, took shots after the win. He said, “I think we all know Russ got kind of did dirty last year. So I know he wished he could have played today in this game, but it’s awesome getting a win for him. He got a petty game ball.

While winning matters for the team, Russell Wilson would be eager to get back on the field. Sitting on the sidelines wouldn’t up his stock. Can he come back during the week 3 game against the Chargers? Steeler Nation is waiting on that.
