The Miami Dolphins have made a rather bold statement by inking Tua Tagovailoa to a record-breaking $212.4 million contract extension. But is the young QB worth that kind of cash? Broncos legend Mark Schlereth doesn’t think so.

In a recent X/Twitter clip from the Stinkin’ Truth Podcast, the former football player and radio podcaster Schlereth boldly declared that he’d sees the Packers’ Jordan Love hoisting the Lombardi Trophy more probable than Miami’s Tagovailoa. “I have a much easier time closing my eyes and seeing Jordan Love with confetti rolling down on him than I see Tua,” Schlereth said. The former Pro Bowler went on to praise Love’s ability to make plays when things break down—a quality he believes sets him apart as a ‘next-level QB.’

The Fox Sports football analyst further lauded the Packers’ QB, calling him the best in the league. “[Jordan Love] can affect the game when the offense ain’t clicking or the game plan isn’t working. That’s next-level quarterbacking, and I would argue from about Week 9 on… I don’t think there’s a better QB in the league than Jordan Love!”

Let’s break down the numbers for both QBs. Jordan Love, the Packers’ 26th pick, put up impressive stats last season. He racked up 372 completions for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns. But it’s his rushing ability that really stands out—247 yards and four TDs on-ground. That dual-threat capability makes him a nightmare for defenses!

Dolphins’ QB Tagovailoa’s all about that pocket precision, though. Dropped 388 passes for 4,624 yards and 29 TDs. With a slick 69.3% completion rate, his accuracy’s on point. So, is Tagovailoa really worth a quarter-billion bucks? Given the stats and Schlereth’s take, it’s a hard sell. Tagovailoa’s got potential, but Love’s explosive style and upside are turning heads—yeah, even catching the eye of a Super Bowl champ.

For now, Miami’s all-in on Tagovailoa, but only time will tell if this huge contract pays off.

Tagovailoa inks $212M extension with Dolphins, but is he worth it?

Miami’s locked up their QB for the next four years, inking the Alabama Crimson Tide product to a record-breaking $212.4M contract. With this deal, all the top QBs from the 2020 draft class—Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Jalen Hurtshave their long-term futures secured.

However, not everyone’s thrilled with the Dolphins QB’s payday. Former wideout James Jones believes that players should receive bucks based on performance and not potential. Jones pointed to the WR Brandon Aiyuk situation in San Fran as an example of how teams might prioritize QBs over other key players.

Even some analysts aren’t convinced that the 26-year-old signal-caller is worth the massive contract. Sports podcaster Nick Wright thinks the Dolphins might’ve made a mistake by tying themselves to a QB with a potential ceiling. “I think it’s a mistake,” Wright said on the First Things First chat show.

Whatever it may be, the pressure’s on Tua Tagovailoa to come through. Let’s see if he can deliver this season.
