The Cleveland Browns‘ offense isn’t just struggling; it’s statistically one of the league’s worst. Their offense ranks 30th in passing yards (1,513), a reality that puts every decision by head coach Kevin Stefanski, especially those concerning the future, under intense scrutiny. Yet, the latest update on a potential future piece offers little hope for a quick fix.

“Stefanski said nothing has changed re: Shedeur Sanders’ practice reps or routine but said Sanders has been good in post-practice drills with other young players, including today in red zone,” The Athletic’s Zac Jackson wrote on X.
With scrutiny growing over Stefanski’s handling of the QB2 spot, could this choice push him onto the hot seat? Well, this hasn’t just been the story this week.

Stefanski said nothing has changed re: Shedeur Sanders’ practice reps or routine but said Sanders has been good in post-practice drills with other young players, including today in red zone.
“We’ve tried to be extremely intentional about the development of our young players.”

After missing week 8 against the Patriots, Shedeur was limited in practice with back tightness. Fast forward to the week 10 game against the Jets, according to Stefanski, Shedeur wanted “to see how he responds before committing to him as QB2 on Sunday.” This led many to scratch their heads, as even though he had already earned the place, he still had to fight for it. It seems that the QB limbo for the 43-year-old HC is likely to continue.
DeShaun Watson is still out, Joe Flacco exited, Dillon Gabriel is unable to spark something meaningful, and Shedeur Sanders has yet to see a regular-season snap. Everything is falling apart for the Browns’ QB situation and Stefanski, but still, Cleveland has already made a final decision on the head coach.

The Cleveland Browns have made up their minds on Kevin Stefanski’s fate
The Browns have had probably the roughest season in recent years. Their offense isn’t clicking, the quarterback situation doesn’t seem to resolve anytime soon, major blowout performances like the Week 2 loss to the Ravens (41-17), Week 4 defeat to the Lions (34-10), Week 6 setback to the Steelers (23-9), and Week 8 hit to the Patriots (32-13) have definitely raised many eyebrows over Stefanski’s future with the team. But it appears that Stefanski is still not going anywhere, at least for some time.

“I think Kevin Stefanski is 100% totally safe,” Kay Cabot explained on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast on Monday. “I think that [owner] Jimmy Haslam indicated even at the NFL annual meeting that [general manager] Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski were going to be breaking in rookie quarterbacks this year, and this was not the season in which they were going to have their feet held to the fire.
“I really don’t think Kevin is in any trouble right now. Maybe they’ll re-evaluate after the season.”

The Browns were already a mess when Stefanski came to Cleveland in 2020. He ended their playoff drought in his inaugural season and also took them to another playoff trip in 2023. This was the season when Stefanski employed 5 quarterbacks and went to the postseason. He has a record of 42-51 in Cleveland, which doesn’t appear that bad on paper. Even Stefanski himself seems committed to turning things around.

“We’re committed to this thing, and we’ll just find ways to get better in all areas, and we’ll go from there. Big division game at our place this week.”
So even if Sanders has to wait for now, Stefanski is still going to be there and roll things in his own way.
