Cleveland fans get ready – because the QB entertainment has just started. Throw in a dash of celebrity intrigue, and things get even spicier—especially when a legendary player starts dropping hints by tagging the player’s wife. Yes, that’s right. And when the player in question is Russell Wilson – who just entered free agency after leaving the Steelers, the plot just thickens.

All of it started with just a tweet – sweet and simple. Former Browns QB Bernie Kosar, a Cleveland legend, decided to make a suggestive post on social media. And instead of just tagging Russell Wilson, he decided to post a picture with his wife and tag her as well. Because why just advise Russell when you can make a bigger impact by adding his wife? Kosar said: “How about #Cleveland ⁦@ciara @DangeRussWilson 🏈 #UMatter #DawgPound #Browns ⁦@Kosarwellness #HealthyHabits ⁦@CiaraSquad_”

And the tweet started a wave of fan reactions and memes on the internet. Browns fans showcased their creativity, by posting memes of Ciara performing her hit “1,2 Step” in Browns gear – hinting that she was already warming up for Cleveland. While some called Kosar “a modern-day cupid” with an arrow aiming not at Russell but at Ciara. Another meme called Kosar as a matchmaker, captioned, “When your QB recruitment plan includes serenading the wife.”

For the Browns, Russell is that key which opens up their stability chambers. The Browns have struggled last season under the center and ended the season with a disappointing 3-14 record. But the most important question is – will the Dawg Pound sign him? Maybe Kosar should have tagged him, too.

On the other hand, Russell Wilson has the most wins by an NFL QB in his first nine seasons. He was the one who led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory and, being a 10-time Pro Bowler, highlighted his potential to elevate the Browns’ performance. Russell Wilson’s career with the Steelers wasn’t all good. Let’s just say it started like a full blockbuster action-packed movie but ended like a Netflix series that got cancelled mid-season.

Safe to say, his ending was a bit rough with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But if we look at his stats during that time, they aren’t that bad. In 2024, he played 11 games, clocked a 95.6 passer rating, and threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Statistically speaking, quite decent but emotionally, still not enough. So, they ended things mutually. So, after this break-up, how are the Steelers handling their QB situation?

After Russell Wilson’s exit: Mike Tomlin’s Aaron Rodgers gambit

HC Mike Tomlin is said to be really interested in Aaron Rodgers. After Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, the Steelers haven’t been able to get a hold of their QB issues. Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph (who just got signed up) don’t exactly scream ‘franchise QB’. If Tomlin wants to completely shift the AFC North championship in their favour – then Aaron Rodgers is the answer.

But if the Steelers want to land a deal with Aaron Rodgers, then they better be ready to splurge out money – because Rodgers doesn’t come cheap. The guy is a four-time MVP and a Super Bowl ring. His salary cap with the Jets was $37 million and whoever thinks about signing him up – better be ready to shell out $37-40 million per season. And that isn’t pocket change, it can literally shake up the whole cap situation for the team.

However, even if the Pittsburgh are eyeing him, but can they really afford him? – Definitely, yes. As the Steelers have around $64 million in cap space. Plus, they can add other incentives in the contract to spread out the financial hit – ultimately helping them in getting other players in their roster too. But why the delay? Because Rodgers is 41, it means that they might be betting their roster on a short-term fix.

So, the Steelers are in a Rodgers or bust situation. They have the money, the desperation to land him, but the only question they need to ask themselves is – do they need a quick fix or a permanent solution? It’s a risk and if they are willing to take it, they might have a better season this year. But for the Browns – Russell could be the golden ticket. He has the experience, stability and leadership they are looking for. And they surely need it to finally make it to the playoffs.
